So wonderful to see a monk of the Ramakrishna Order talk about topology. If Vedanta appeals to such a mind, it must be a wonderful subject! Mahan Maharaj ji ki Jai!

A wonderful talk that non-mathematicians can understand. Of course, the work he actually does is far more complicated and needs a lot of technical background

Excellent talk esp the application of topology to measuring of internal defects in a crystal by integrating external surface to get angles contributed by internal defects using Gauss-Bonett theorem. Also Riemannian/Lorentzian geometry for use in GPS satellites corrections as per Relativity. CalabiYao in string theory.

very embarrassing. the professor is giving an important lecture, and there are people just moving anywhere around him! couldn't you give him at least a room? it's distracting to see people moving around when one is teaching.

Lohit, Moving us all along in the Great Task. That is the program of dividing knowledge up into disciplines which know more and more about less and less until eventually we shall know everything about nothing. This state is called Nirvana, a fact which demonstrates the essential unity of science and religion. Excuse me, the Essential Unity of Science and Religion. Gotta have those capital letters...

David Lloyd-Jones Exactly sir. We, modern humans, have made presence in universe in just last 0.001 galactic year. Who knows how much time we are left with. The gift of intelligence ought to be used in the very direction you mentioned sir. We yet have to understand many more hidden rules of universe and we are still far from understanding what caused Big Bang and whether that event with duration of fraction of second that created our universe was caused due to divine intervention. Will we be ever able to connect science and religion? And I personally am very pro-AI as I believe it's got much more capability to unravel breakthroughs in much lesser times. Yes we can.😃

Goodness, he will regret appearing before this 'clueless' bunch forever. Additionally, during the lecture, stop having folks moving around while one baldy hovers in the background with a camera . One should consider it lucky that a stray cow did enter this "open lecture area", and drop dung on the audience. Then again, playing with cow dung might have helped them understand continuous deformation better.
