Nice. Funny enough, you can see where the lights are placed in her eyes. Well, the ones in front. The others you can gauge from looking at the surroundings. This is a really great video. Thanks for uploading!

Awesome...!! But, these lights give me a stroke when I see you handling it. Are they so fragile? How did you manage to fix it on the C-stand?

Looking to build a DIY set-up similar to some of the options you have here. What clamp are you using for some of the single lights?
@ShareGrid5 жыл бұрын
I have built custom rigs from cheap home depot parts, mainly from the gardening section..but have seen people use Cardellini clamps or the Matthews Quasar rigs for a few extra bucks! -Kyle

These seem useful as alternatives to strip softboxes, or for lighting backgrounds, or as in-frame novelty lighting, but most of the other applications in this video seemed a bit like fitting a square peg into a round hole. And it's a matter of taste but I don't think square eyelights are as pleasing as round. However, these lights have their place and it would be nice to have a few on set for certain situations. -- checking piggybank -- 🐖

Don't forget, 2" black paper tape is a great way to reduce the intensity or kill some of the "wrap" of the light.

These look very intriguing, especially with the new Matthews grip accessories AND compatibility with Kino-Flo fixtures. I can't find where to buy them, however! I've been looking at the the vendors listed on Quasar Science's website, and, after looking at all of the listed vendors in California, several in Arizona, and one in New York (AbelCine), I find only two vendors who sell any Quasar Science products, and they only have a few of them (like the LED light bulbs, not the tubes). Does anyone know a good source for these? (I also looked at B&H, Adorama, and Amazon, with no luck.) I'd really like to try some of these tubes. Also, what's the difference between the T12 and the T8 tubes? Thanks! Nicholas
@ShareGrid6 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Screenstoryteller they’re still not out I believe but contact Matthews. They may have some demos for you to try.

T12 is the crossfade model that can switch between color temperatures. The T8 is smaller in size and can't change color temperature (comes in either 3200k or 5600k). T12s are more powerful at 50w (for 4') whereas T8s are only 30w (for 4'). Since these lights have become insanely popular, they're harder to come by. About a year ago, we ordered some T12 directly from Quasar and they came very quickly. However, I recently tried to order some T8s from Hot Rod Cameras and they've been backordered from 2 months now.

1:56 so amateur. Like wow. 1:59 you were able to top it. I am in awe. Please, go back in and pixilate that out. No one should think that is remotely acceptable. The 3:38 edge is stunning. If I can, all my edge lights are from a large soft source. Having said this, you did it by accident. You need a housing for the tubes. That is the standard. Taking them out of a housing is the exception. The moving light was really nice, can be very powerful if used at the right time. Moving lights are very uncommon.
