These shark POV cams are fascinating. Great way to research their behavior.

😃 Wow, that was cool!. I didn't think a Great White Would stalk in a kelp forest, I thought it would get tangled.

Kelp forest is scary enough... you don't need a stalking great white

While stationed at DLI-FLC in 1992, I was snorkeling through the ice cold waters of the Presidio of Monterey California "kelp forest" (off of the northern side of the peninsula) on a Saturday morning. Prior to that, nobody ever told me that great white sharks were in California. I learned that lesson instantaneously.

He swims through it but he also seems to be trying to avoid swimming through it. Perhaps he's looking for otters.

What a smart animal. Fantastic the way the shark look way up towards the seal. Awesome!

I had heard that great whites avoid kelp forests. Now I know that nowhere is safe from prehistoric bitey torpedoes. Thanks for the nightmare fuel.

I'm from Michigan and people wonder why I'm afraid of sea weed in Lake Superiority. Even though they obviously don't live in fresh water, I'm still terrified one packed up his things and took a bus to the lake just to wait for me.

No. You do well to stay out of the water.

Bullsharks can survive in freshwater, and have made it at least 10k miles inland up rivers into Illinois

its been 2 years but i want to tell you that you're absurdly unlikely to ever encounter a shark in a lake, and even if you did, it probably wouldn't attack you anyway.

One of the most fascinating things I have seen.. I hope they start to use more cameras on these magnificent creatures.. can you imagine what what they could catch on film. Imagine a shark attack on a human

So almost 6 months ago was diving of Monterey California in the kelp forest, when a big shadow passed over the top of me, you bet your ass it was a great white, never went to the bottom so fast in my life. It has now made me paranoid in kelp forests but spear fishing is too much fun to say no to. Its mpvements dont look like an adult great white from the camera, looks more like a seal moving. Minus their whole circus spin thing.

I saw on a nature show that kelp is seals' safe haven from sharks (other than land obviously). Was the nature show fake news?
@EcopiuM5 жыл бұрын
No it wasn’t. It’s still far safer then open water and makes it much more difficult for sharks to hunt.

Idk if its fake news, but I only have one experience with a great white in a kelp forest and that was in northern California, never seen them in the kelp forest or even the canyon in Southern California
@sain2233 жыл бұрын
And this is why I would never spearfish on the west coast. Even the kelp forests aren't safe.

False, sharks are very complex and curious animals. They've been seen checking out objects in the surface with their dorsal fin

They all said to" head for the kelp beds !! " A shark won't go through the kelp as the kelp would wrap around the gills and drown a shark! Well this just shot that theory all to heck and came back for more!! Not like you'd EVER see me with even my big toe going in ocean
@pov78532 жыл бұрын
It did look like the shark was searching but couldn't hone in on anything specific so I'm guessing it's safer than open water
