Same exact problem here. It took about 15 runs for a map to even show up and about 40 for a map that I could edit. Even with the map the robot still gets slightly lost too. I was hopeful for no go lines but with how inaccurate the robot is, I’m not sure if those would be so good.

Gave ours 40 runs before sending it back. Would only return to its base about 50% of the time. Incredibly frustrating, just when we would think it must be close it would seemingly lose its bearings completely. Returned and bought a Neato D7, which is incredible. Neato makes the shark look terrible, mapped both floors of our home in 1 run each, no go lines are awesome and the cleaning performance is way better than shark as well.

No question they need a major software update but the vacumm itself is fine. I heard they have a version 3 update now.

KingLord Shark emailed me after ours was returned to be patient that they would have a November update- hopefully that fixes it. Even if it worked perfectly and mapped in the claimed 10 runs the laser tech that Neato and others use is superior- mapping in a single pass, and does not require light to work.

Disappointed in the seemingly Shark sponsored reviews. Purchased the new IQ self empty and it was terrible. The mapping never worked after 40 runs, wouldnt even find its base. Shark support was horrendous, seemed like they were reading the manual for the first time. We returned ours and went with a Neato D7, which is in an entirely different league than the Shark. Neato mapped in 1 run, navigation is so accurate its scary. No go lines and zone cleaning are way more useful on the Neato than the self empty feature on the Shark. After owning both I cant believe you would bring your credibility down by recommending the Shark.

Having owned shark vacuum's they are pretty fantastic. so im willing to give the IQ without the base a try. I previously had a Neato D3 but after a 2nd one that lost connection with wifi i was done with them. When the D3 worked it was a great vacuum.

@5:21 you say it will auto dump when full. Yet another KZbinr showed how his would not auto dump. This has kept me waiting to buy this shark. Can you confirm that it does auto dump? Did he maybe not a setting turned on?

Yea ever since you "consulted" on the Shark IQ robot vacuum....I can't take anything you say about it seriously... It's battery life sucks and it's software sucks as many others have stated and reviews point out....Yet.... We don't hear about that stuff on this channel usually. We usually hear the infomercial for how great the Shark IQ is.

What is the difference between the RV1000AE and RV1000S. Visually the RV1000AE has a handle on top of the dust bin, but the RV1000S does not have the handle. The AE and S models appear on the Shark website, but the "Compare" checkbox is curiously missing from the S model. Hmmmm.

Dust collection tank is so small at R101 0.2L, in my house there is a large dog (English springer spaniel) that drops hair every day all year in huge quantities. The robot will have to empty itself 4-5 times a day compared to the Neato D7 which I have to empty once every two days, so the R101 gonna be very slow robot cleaner for house with dogs or childrens. In addition, the Neato D7 has a longer battery life in low and high mode, and has a much more stronger pumping in low mode (2X time more battary life in low mode - 1.25X times on high mode).

Is it just me or is there one glaring item never tested , can any of these robots handle black stripes on carpet ? the anti drop sensors on almost all robot vacs i have tried fail to understand pasterns on rugs that are any from of grey or black. Would be nice for manufactures to address this perhaps allow for the sensors to be disabled in app for people using them on single level homes that are sick of them failing on carpet. I have tried the tape and foil tricks and this does not work on all models , and often fails after 1 or 2 cleanings.

How about scoring the amount of lines in plusher carpet left by the wheels? We have several models of robot vacuums (Shark IQ, Neato) and while they might do a good/great job...boy the wheel marks are visually not very appealing. Especially in areas where the robot needs to do a lot of navigating (i.e. around char to table legs). It would be nice if the manufacture's would address that issue.

I'm subscribed to your channel, however I never received notification of this. My experience was a little different. I did post this on your other video, but I wasn't sure if you would see it or not. I picked up the 101AE on Saturday, at BJ's on sale for $400. Google home lynx fine, however Amazon app keeps getting a bad gateway message. also after running the first day, it started complaining about dirty sensors and the vacuum getting stuck at the edge of a stairway. it is my opinion that the dustbin is too small, even though it will suck it up into the larger container. it was unable to suck out at least half of the debris in the small bin of the vacuum. It had to make two or three stops back at the base to empty out the dirt been, even though I have not that much space upstairs. it also had trouble docking, it seems of it got mad that I moved a little table around and it kept trying to go through it. Although it has two side brushes, I find that the roller with is a little disappointing. Although my Neato XV21 has its issues, I think it does a better job. I've never had to replace the Neato filter, as I just give it a quick vacuum. the shark has so many filters, I'm worried about how expensive it's going to be to maintain after a while. I also found it annoying that I would set the vacuum level from normal to boost, but it would not keep the setting. I would have to keep changing it during every vacuum. That being said, on the normal suction setting, battery life was poor. I doubt I will keep it.

Maybe you can help. What is the difference between Shark IQ Robot™ XL Vacuum R101AEW and 1001AE? The R101AEW is on Sharks website ($549) as the self empty bot and it has a different design on the face of the trash bin than the 1001AE. I bought the 1001AE from Amazon Nov 2020 for ($319). Did I buy an inferior model version? They look identical other than the design on the trash bin. Thanks

You were in it for about minute. I'm really pulling for shark, its what I'm waiting for but you are misleading. Shark can't tell when its bin is loaded so can't return to empty it. It also can't clear its brush from being jammed not sure if its because of one brush or no reversing gear box like roomba. Sharks only getting attention for the self emptying but they didn't think it through.

No. The higher capacity bin on the R100 does not have the hole so that the base can suck out the contents. I suspect the R100 won't have the timer function to have it "automatically" return to the base either.

Save yourself the headache and get something else. I would recommend a neato. We had the shark 101ae for a month and a half, would never complete mapping our home, couldnt even find its base half the time. Several calls to the worst tech support ever were no help, gave up and returned it. Now have a Neato D7 and it is incredible- maps in 1 run, seriously makes the shark seem like a toy, and was on sale for same price.

Almost every KZbinr will tell you that it takes at least 20 cleaning runs to complete a map. Please, if you want a robot vacuum, get a LIDAR robot. Roborock, Deebot, etc.
