7 YEARS LATER AND THIS VIDEO IS STILL NEEDED. YOU ROCK.‼️ Thanks so much for this. My poor shark was a hot mess from years of heavy cleaning, dogs cats etc. I found the tool to my Milwalkee Fuel Brushless 3 n 1 power drill, that removes the drill screws worked perfectly!!! It looks like an Allen wrench but has the star shape and a hole in the center to let the tamper resistant bump in center of screw to go into it.

Thank you so much for this video. I probably would not have found the third hidden screw without it! I watched two other videos and they missed it. Your tip on removing the side plate to access the plug was most helpful. Keep up the good work! You are right about the design. It was engineered to assemble, not to be worked on. My last vacuum had two screws and the plate had two tabs to remove the cover plate to access the drive belt and roller. So much more user friendly! I am a retired Master Electrician with 50 years in industrial maintenance and I know a useful video! Used to be you could use the tech data that came with the equipment. Now I find myself using a lot of KZbin videos. Thank God for KZbin and for the good videos I find there!

From one Donna to another, I cant THANK YOU enough. Ive been repairing and selling used vacuums for years and never found anything this complicated to replace the belt !!! Like one person said, 'Shark wants you to throw this away and buy a new one'. As I picked this up out of the the trash, Im sure, that's exactly what the previous owners did. Seeing that this machine looked so new, I just figured a good cleaning and new belt would do the trick. Not so fast !!!! Had a big problem with those Torx screws with the nub in the middle. Guess I need to buy the right bit to remove the screws. I did give up and then checked KZbin. Its always a God send, when I cant figure things out. I still have a ways to go but thankfully I now have a great video to guide me !!!! Cant thank you enough !!!

Still helpful 6 years later! I struggled to get my screws out with a T20 despite it seeming like the right size, as the center of each screw actually has a small protrusion that prevented me from getting into it. I switched to a flathead size 3 and shoved it against the center peg and that worked like a charm!

I also appreciate the fact that you pointed out that you need to be aware of the wires in the back when you put the top back on so they don't get pinched is a life saver. Great video. I'm a big fan!

Thanks for the info; especially about the 3 "hidden" screws. One other thing, especially on machines that have been used for a while: clean all of the fuzz and hair especially from the numerous motor cooling slots! Mine had significant buildup, and keeping them clean will help keep that motor cool; it has its own internal fan near the electrical brushes for the motor. Plus there was a ton of hair wrapped around the end of the motor shaft near the pulley.

My son bought a house and in it was a Shark Rotator. He tried it and said it didn't pick up well. I turned it up and noticed the beater/brush was not spinning. I thought maybe the belt was bad. Thanks for the tips about the the hidden screws. I got it apart and the belt is good. I then noticed a switch and thought I'll bet the beater/brush motor doesn't spin on less that switch is on. The switch it on when the handle is tipped down, So I reassembled it and yes the beater brush works. So, I'm still at a loss as to why my son says it doesn't pick up well. A helpful video.

One of the most important parts of the Video - It's a great Video by the way - is the switch being shown at the 3:08 mark in the video. If that switch fails, it will prevent the beater bar (rotating brush) from working. It could be stuck on or off. Ours was stuck off and would not turn on. The switch did not spring back and click like shown in the video. This happened on ours and a quick call to Shark Corp got a replacement Motorized Floor Brush Assembly on the way and a prepaid shipping label to send back the defective one. They need your model number on the silver sticker and the date code on the power cord plug - code is on one of the blades that plugs into the wall. it is stamped into it. We are out the vacuum till the new part gets here, but I have to give them props for great customer service and an easy warranty claim process.

@jamilabbasy7 жыл бұрын
I just replaced the green switch with the one from Amazon last week. Ignore the middle prong and only use the outer two. You will first need to strip back the black shrink wrap and then cut off the old switch. They are NOT slide on connectors, but rather the wires are soldered to the switch prongs. Simply solder the wire to the new switch in the exact same positions.

Great job. Exactly what i was looking for. Thanks for the warning about the connected cable under the cover. Also. i hate the design of cable routing at the neck too. Excellent DIY! Thank you so much! Tips on hidden screws & connections was awesome. Mine has many miles of industrial cleanup on it. It very important to feed those wires through the middle of the round part just above the switch (seen at video time 3:10) . Yours are behind where they need to be. Slide that "clearish" bushing out. There's a slot that you slide the wires through to get them on the inside of the bushing. Then, slide the bushing back in. It only fits back in one way. That will protect your wires from getting crimped. That's where I went wrong last time I had it apart to clean: the white wire was outside of the bushing and got crimped until it broke.

Thank you very much for this video! I couldn't find the last 3 screws to tear this apart and I got that location from your video. The reason for tearing it apart is that the brush wouldn't activate when it should. I took this apart ad found the green switch that you showed that should activate the brush when you move the vacuum. This was broken on mine so I took the wires off of the switch and essentially hot wired it together. NOW, the main switch on the vacuum controls if the head runs or not. Not two separate switches. I threw the old one out. Thank you so much for helping me get to where i needed to get! :)

One thing I noticed on mine is that 2 of the screws on the bottom are slightly different from the rest. The two at the top near the wheel axle (they are raised out from the base) are ever so slightly thinner and also have a smaller indentation for the screwdriver. This was incredibly helpful! My 30+ year Filter Queen has exactly 6 screws - all visually easy to see and access - to get the bottom plate off to replace the belt. I bought a Shark Rotator Lift Away LA 502 for a different floor (getting older, can't be hauling vacs up and down stairs!). Loved it at first, though I pulls like a runaway horse. I guess this is considered a design fault by many, as it does cause arm fatigue. But it's equally bad when it stops pulling. It then feels like pushing and pulling through molasses. I did something regrettable. Not thinking about it, I cleaned up some decebtigrateing drywall. I also vacuumed a rubber backed rug. The end got pulled into the powrhead and I got a red light. After that, loss of airflow, suction and it's stiff to move. I checked all my hoses. I replaced all the filters. Still no improvement. The bars are moving clearly and freely, but I've ordered a new belt just in case. I found your video looking for instructions on what was going to be required.... And oh my gosh! The number of screws they've hidden! I'm gonna be cursing before it's over, I see. If a new belt doesn't solve the problem, I'm out of ideas and will have to take it in I guess. I don't know which of the two stupid things I did caused the problem. I've gotten lucky with my Filter Queen. It could have handled both things without issue. And if something had broke, it would be an easy, easy fix. How I wish the designers of the original dual cyclonic had beat Dyson to an upright. If only they'd made the leap yet kept the simple engineering. If course that was always a flaw in their business model. Their vacuum might cost 1500 new, but you never had to replace it! I've seen 80 year old models working beautifully. Better than moden vacs that were 3 times the price. But you can't make money if the vac never has to be replaced. Anyway, thanks for a great video. I'll be using it as soon as the belt arrives. From one vac wonk to another, thanks again.

Great video, thank you! My roller brush was turning, but poorly and making a racket, not the normal sound. Turns out a very small pebble was lodged in one of the "teeth" on the inside of the belt, somehow causing the rpm's of the roller to slow down enough where it wasn't getting any decent suction. Pebble removed, good as new!

I also had a bad/sticky switch. It would stick down, the position the switch would be in if the vacuum was in the upright position. If I tapped on the switch it would pop back up. 3:30 Essentially, that little switch turns the roller brush on/off when the unit is lowered to operate, or if locked in an upright position. I'm guessing the designers didn't want the roller brushing in one spot when the vacuum was in a parked position. Anyway, it's a terribly cheap little switch that accounts for about 80% of all failures of this vacuum. If your shark's roller brush fails to operate, this switch can be removed (wires spliced or locked together), and often this will make your vacuum functional once again.

That is a lot of steps and work to change a belt. In 35 years, I have never had to disassemble a vacuum with more than a couple steps to change belt, even when I had a Kirby. I have had it for 3 years.

This was supremely helpful to me. Whoever thought it was a good idea to put those screws under the little wheels in the front, should be the first up against the wall when the revolution comes. My roller was not engaging, and it turned out to be the little electrical switch you were complaining about at 4:15. There was a little flaw in the plastic within the switch that was preventing it from actuating. :( I was able to rectify the problem with some judicious pressure from a flathead screwdriver. Don't try this at home, kids! (it helps if you're a former aircraft mechanic) Thanks again, Tech Angel!

Holy Toledo! Thank God you did this video!!! My roller bar stopped turning and I want to see if it's the belt. Had no idea how to get to it. Gone are the days of simply turning over the old Hoover from when I was a kid eons ago! Lol! Probably will.have to watch this a couple times to actually do it. Not too mechanically inclined. 🤣 Wish me luck. 👍😁

Thanks for this video. Helped quite a bit. Turns out the problem was a micro switch (found lots of other people that had the same issue). I cut the wires to the switch, hooked them together and the beater brush is working fine now. Thanks!

Thank you ! I never would have figured out the (hidden screws) without this. Also showing how the switch "clicked" helped me determine that's what was broken.

Wish I knew about this before purchasing. Got a replacement under warranty but it took months to get it back during a shipping strike a few years ago. They finally actually sent a complete new vac when all iit needed was the brush roller assembly or I assume a new belt or good international cleaning. Could not locate the hidden screws or would have fixed it myself. It works good when it's not having belt problems and if I can fix the old one which I still kept for parts I'll have two. Thanks for the informative vid.

Thank God for this video. My family had a Hoover for over 50 years, a breeze to maintain and no need to tackle a dozen phillips screws, a circuit board connector, and the 3 stupid wires to the stupid power switch. Needless to say the belt was fine, but probably the wires blocked the power switch from closing. First try to reassemble, with 4 hands, resulted in power switch wires hanging outside the plastic mating pieces. Yikes

The switch wires have probably all ready been addressed, but if it has not ....the switch on the left with the spring strip of metal that makes up when upright has two wires that should be guided thru the white plastic grommet at the pivot point. Great video

My DIL bought this for us in 2013. The rotating brush is the first issue we've had. i called the company and, since it is still under warranty, they are replacing the whole bottom unit instead of just a part. Win! it always pays to call the company.

I just wanted to take the roller out to clean the hair off real good. I like the vacuum EXCEPT how badly the roller clogs with hair. I gets bad quickly, then it makes the roller pointless. Good performance besides the hair clog. Very helpful info Tech Angel , I wasn't getting the cover off. Had no idea they had screws under the front rollers. Thank you! :)
