I'd argue it just comes with the territory. I work with many snakes and lizards and the way I prepare myself mentally is by assuming I'm gonna get bit and accepting that. I do everything I can to watch the animal and observe their behaviors and respect them with my interactions. I still occasionally get bit and thats OK. What I'm getting at is they are probably accepting of this eventuality and fully prepared for it. All I'm saying is my first aid kit is probably a bit more robust than the average person's kit and I bet theirs is too. Should one of them get bit, their training and observations will ensure its not immediately fatal 99% of the time. Even if one were to lose a limb, I bet they're equipped to apply proper first aid. Feel bad for them all you want but they know the risks in a very personal way, and it's always the first thing on their mind.
@shirota3978

@@thinriches Well, there’s a difference in risk between being bit by a lizard and by I freaking shark!! What do you mean “they are prepared for the risk of losing limb”? If the risk is to lose a limb the best thing you can do - not put yourself in that risk. I get it if we were talking about working at factory where everything is sort of controlled and the way you act decides wether you would get injured or not. But it’s a wild animal with it’s own mind. You can’t fully control the risk of being bit or not. Imagine if someone said to you “It’s completely fine to jump from 2rd floor window as long as you understand that you can break your bones”. Like no? Why would you do something like that? Just because you’re unlikely to die while doing something doesn’t mean that it’s good thing to do. First aid kit can help at some capacity but it can’t give you back a limb you’ve lost and life you’ve had before the injury. Certain risks are just unnecessary and you don’t need to take them or organise something that’s going to be high risk with no control of it or any purpose whatsoever. Like you can watch shark that explores world by biting from the safe distance.

@@thinriches How do you work with them? I'm curious. I've come to love reptiles. Snakes especially are some of the most gorgeous creatures on Earth! My half brother who died in his early 70s of RA 8 years ago was a biology teacher. He had many unique pets. His pride and joy were his boa constrictors. He even got two of them to breed and was so proud. The female produced about 50 babies and he called himself Grandpa! He had a lot of feeder rats and mice that we'd make pets of them while visiting. He had an armadillo, a tarantula, and even kept cockroaches for pets...ICK! He also had two German Shepherd mixes that he trained so well and several cats through the years. He neutered one of my cats when I was a teenager and even put down one of my cats. He was a genius. He ended up donating his body to science and his second wife joked that he always wanted to go to Medical school! I had a ball python and trained it to eat dead mice. My boyfriend kept calling it and eating tube. I eventually gave it away to a pet store and the owner couldn't believe that I got it to eat dead mice. It was sold within a week. I have almost 20 years of working with animals. Mainly cats and dogs. Had a lot of various jobs thru those years. My last job was my fav. Working at an animal shelter that also took in exotics. Smaller rodents, birds, got into adopting out rabbits. We even had several chickens. Two of them were smaller than your farm chicken. I only have one cat now (had four) that I adopted from that shelter in 2013. She's 14 and doing well. It was fate. She was meant to be mine. Sorry for babbling. I joke, but really mean it. Don't get me talking about animals because I won't stop! It's where my head heart and soul belongs.

@@shirota3978 First of all, have you heard of paragraphs? For the sake of us older ppl, please use them. Before I worked with animals, I was a secretary/word processor for 25 years. I am disgusted with the way the language, writing, spelling, abbreviations, new bull crap terms are heading. This woman loves what she does and there is nothing wrong with that. If you're accidentally bitten by a venomous snake for example, then yes, you may loose a part of your body depending on where you're bitten. To her, it's worth it. If she dies, she'll die doing what she loves.

I'm so glad you said what you did about Ocean Ramsey. Just look at what happened to Timothy Treadwill (Grizzly Man). He dedicated his life to filming grizzly bears to try and show people the softer side of them, but instead he ended up recording his girlfriend and himself being eaten alive! I love that Ocean is trying to show people that sharks aren't mild less killers, but I don't think she puts her own safety high enough on the priority list, and fails to warn people enough about how dangerous what she is doing really is. Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to change until someone gets serious injured or killed.

I agree about you with Ocean Ramsey. I am a former behaviorist that has been around animals both in the wild and in captivity and what she is preaching is extremely dangerous and reckless. while it is important for people to know how to redirect, it should only be known in case you are in an absolute worse case scenario if the shark is going to attack. Fortunately, I have swam with blue sharks (not as dangerous as tigers or great whites but still a sizeable shark) and while they have come close they never had any intent on biting me and simply wanted to take a closer look at me. She should be preaching on what circumstances it is okay to be in the water with sharks and when its not okay to be in the water with them.

I said, they may not be going out of their way to find humans but we are easy meals and in their territory. Even a curious bite, or a warning bite, could be fatal. But that doesn't mean we should go out of our way to kill them for doing what is natural to them. It is unfortunately a reality of swimming in the ocean.

The shark "feeding like a whale" reminds me of parrots & cockatoo's when they appear to yawn. The neck feathers being smaller and softer are prone to movement during preening, but don't always realign themselves. When they appear to yawn (and stretch), they're actually readjusting these small feathers around their neck.

Hey mate With the clip if the great white "yawning", about half way through your video, you can see another white in the back ground. It's hard to tell without full context, but is it possible that they are circling each other to establish hierarchy for feeding and the flex of the jaws is a display of power and size to help determine that?

I’m speculative about OR’s qualifications and whilst I’m sure her intent is to ‘raise awareness’ or collect data but, I disagree with the message that it’s ok to dive with sharks with the intent of touching them. It was smallish, reminds me of that nurse shark in one of the clips, and the only one I saw around There was a lot of people there, snorkeling at the surface and a handful were diving to get a closer look at the ship The shark was near the ocean floor by the wreck, and I can’t help but wonder what it was going through with so so many people around

I came back to this video after 9 months. And let me tell you something, if that lemon shark was a baby dolphin, people would freak out and call him an animal abuser and all other sorts of insults, but since is a shark, and most people hate them for absolutly no freaking reason, the comments regarding that TikTok, were people laughing at the fact that he threw the shark, cause again is a shark and they don't care about sharks safety and whatnot -_-, I swear those people are hypocrites...

Saw a video on Facebook today where a guy dived into the water thinking it was a basking shark, only for his friend to tell him, dude thats no basking shark, that's a great write and a decent size too from the video, it circled and swam in front of the boat stairs as the guy was swimming towards the boat. The clip then ended, I hope the man got out the water safely.

@@SHARKBYTES Nope. We both agree she is going to either take a hit, or get someone else bitten. It's not a question of why or how or who or where, but when. I was telling someone a few months ago after the Nellis attack that she has played the odds and so far has come out on top. She is showing people extraordinary things about these predators, while at the same time showing some incredibly stupid and reckless behaviors that should under no circumstances be done by anyone, ever..including her. One day when everything has been working well for her, no close calls, everything turns routine...BAM! That's when disaster will strike and it'll be on the news. Or someone emulating her will be bitten. UGH. I wish she would just stop.

I need to re-find that clip of a hammerhead going nuts on this spearfisher in his kayak. This hammerhead chases him for about a hour as he paddles to shore and has to actually beach his kayak because it just wont leave him alone even in shallow water. And you can see this shark just bumping more and more aggressively on the kayak. The guy even points the camera at his fish so you can see its in the boat and hes not taunting/baiting the shark to mae it chase him. The clip starts in the water as spearfisher is tossing his catches into the boat and if you slow down the video you can see that white eye and the spearfisher does what hes supposed to, keeping eye contact and staying still as possible until he has a chace to get in the boat. And he does point out that the fish are probably what drew the shark there in the first place. To the spearfishers credit he does point out that this is highly unusual behavior for any shark. Id be curious on your take. But yah, these arent gentle inquisitive 'are you the food i sensed' taps. These are fullout whiteeyed naling the kayak and almost knocking it over. Like at first the spearfisher is like "cool, the shark is following us", then its "well thats not very nice" as sharky gives a good solid exploratory bumps all calm, then its "oh shit" as the shark stops screwing about. I'm used to sharks as i do dive in places where its not uncommon to find them and i personally dont mind since sharks arent generally 'aggressive' without reason. Id be more worried about a swam of humbolt squid then a bunch of sharks to be honest. Seriously though, all my terrifying underwater times have either involved dead bodies (when not diving for fun, i do some body recovery on the side) or squid. Squid are evil and ambitious about it. Octopus can cause problems if you mess with them (a narked friend of mine once tried to hug an octopus...it tried to hug him aggressively back. Try getting a narked person up safely with an 🐙 as a third wheel).

speaking of owning sharks, i just recently found out that some people get huge aquariums and actually buy smaller species of sharks like the brownbanded bamboo shark. sounds bizarre to me, but i know nothing about fishkeeping, so… do you think that counts as animal abuse, or could these sharks somehow be okay living in captivity?
@SHARKBYTES

Honestly I fear the day these “Shark Influencers” get bit. Steve Irwin finally got careless around a poisonous stingray and lost his life. A great loss in his case because he really championed animals I also fear someone thinking they can just jump in with sharks like Ocean Ramsey does. I’m reminded of the young Russian guy who just lost his life to a GW. When they hooked it, it looked juvenile but I’m not sure. I think it makes sharks more willing to approach humans

I have talked to soo many 8-12 year old boys and girls that say you can redirect great whites and tiger sharks with your hands and they will not bite you. Ocean Ramsey has all these kids believing they can easily do what she does and that the sharks are not really dangerous. Its ludicrous. She is doing more damage as all these kids say they want to swim with these sharks too. Lol.
