Sam! Such a great video! Loved learning about your electric motor - they should sponsor you. I'm sold, not only do you not have to worry about carrying or running out of fuel but the lack of noise and fumes make it so appealing. I also loved your demo of being hove to, there is nothing on youtube that really demonstrates it this well. I'm so excited for you getting your Disney gig in Japan but am going to miss your videos. There is something so appealing about small vessel cruising I hope you don't go too big on the next yacht. Oh and the shark dive looked awesome too. Many thanks for sharing!
@samholmessailing5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Ive been pretty pleased with the motor. Not as quiet as you might expect though. The effect of being hove too is even more pronounced with bigger waves. I sailed a 34 ft yacht a few weeks ago and i think that would definitely be on the upper end of what I’m going for. Im in Japan now but Ive got at least 3 more Hawaii videos to edit and share.

What i like about watching your videos. You are what most people wish they could do, but they can't, or won't. I loved it when I was young and just did whatever I wanted. As I am getting older, I still do shit that comes out of left field and makes others around me me look at me like I am a total free spirit. I have to say.. Taking a tiny little sailboat and traversing the Pacific Ocean takes some really big cojones. Complete respect from me to you. It makes me wish I would have pushed my own limits more back in the day and push even harder for the crazy shit I do in the future. My next push. Sea kayaking the inside passage to Alaska. By comparison of what you are doing.. It pales in comparison.

I’m curious why you to your main island hopping transits at night. As a layman it seems to me that would increase mishap danger? A line or sail issue or rough seas and you can’t easily see things going on? Seems like you are always the only guy underway in and out of harbors at night!
@samholmessailing5 жыл бұрын
I like to leave at a time that will have me arriving in the daylight. Definitely more dangerous at night but can’t really be avoided as they are all over 12 hours. Some inter island passages have taken me three days when I got stuck going upwind and against a current. There is something special about sailing at night under the stars though. Its also nice to set the boat sailing far offshore, go to sleep and then wake up almost at your destination.

That's the only one of your videos that i disliked, since it involves shark feeding. I'm a professional diver, for now 25 years, and advice you to keep away from any region where feeding sharks to sell those trips to dumb tourists, is a daily routine. It changed the animals behavior towards humans, and if u want to know how that works out, just look at Egypt. The red sea isn't safe anymore even at the beaches... You would be wise not to have your name associated with such an ignorant practice.
@samholmessailing Жыл бұрын
They dont feed the sharks here they just go out to an area with fishing boat because they attract the sharks
