As far as suction goes I don’t know of any other upright vacuum that beats the vertex. I just wish the hose had more stretch to it.

100% you can wash the hepa filter? It must take a long time to dry! Also, I have an xtra set of foam filter sets so I don't have to wait for those to dry. Don't use damp filters!

Yes, you can wash it. It takes a while to dry. Put it in front of a fan to dry faster

I like this vacuum but something on it really bugs me. On the apex you could remove the top of the brushroll cover to access on the brushroll. On this you can't which erks me. The NV801 you could actually remove the brushroll which was even better.

Can you wash the soft roller brush after taking it out to fluff it back up?

Yes. Use dish soap or tide and clean it. I scrub it with a brush too. That will remove all the gunk and fluff it up.

this vacuum is a piece of junk. I've had it less than a year and barely use and it has no suction. I've cleaned everything and there are no clogs. I always say 'less is more' because the more options, the more parts to break Then for some reason I decided to buy this high tech piece of garbage.

@@VacMaster1991 thanks for replying. the vacuum is still new, that filter is still white. I even removed that filter(and the other two) and barely no suction. the 2 low power settings have 0 suction and the high power setting has a very small amount of suction. when I turn it on is sound normal for 2-3 seconds and then it sounds like something is clogging up somewhere, except nothing is clogged. The only thing that hasn't been apart and checked and cleaned is suction motor.

@@Frenchfrys17 yes, thanks for asking. I get clogs in the handle where it bends. Its really hard to clear any blockages there. I had to use a flexible metal gas line and wedge it there to clear it.

I don't think its possible to take apart the base. You should contact shark for that.

Check if any hose connections are loose. That can affect the power button. Also contact Shark if you can't fix it

@@VacMaster1991 I really appreciate the quick response. However I am a little confused. Could you explain how a lever that rotates back-and-forth with some bristles at the end can displace static? And why it needs to sort of switch back-and-forth?. Oddly enough with how amazing the vacuum is at keeping hair from getting caught in it. That little brush constantly needs to be picked up to get hair out of it lol. Also the little tiny tires collect hair which is annoying and they don’t pop out very easy in my experience. In fact I’ve yet to been able to get one out.

So it sounds like the inner belt is broken. You will have to contact shark for that.

@@VacMaster1991 I called Shark this afternoon. My Vertex has a 5-year warranty. While I was on the phone with them they processed an order for a new power head which will be delivered in 3-5 days. The main roller was turning but not the front roller. That was an interesting call which was both via phone as well as video so they could see the unit.

No problem.I wash the soft roller with dish soap and warm water. Then I dry it with a towel and sit it on a window sill for 24hrs.

The hose end where it plugs in to the body may be lose. I had that happen with mine. Check the connections and report back.

@VacMaster1991 I ended up calling shark and 2 things fixed it. First, if it doesn't start, remove the Take Away unit completely and put it back. There is a switch that resets. 2nd, that bottom part with 2 screws, absolutely check there!! I did and there was a bunch of paper s I reds in there! One I cleaned it out, the vacuum works great! Thank you 😊 you inspired me to fix it and not feel like I had to get a new one! Happy new year!!

Another question about the shark vertex upright vacuum. How do you go about cleaning the canister with water? Do you use just straight warm water or do you use any kind of detergent? Can you wash the cyclone to with water and soap? Thanks

I have washed shark bibs with dish soap and water. Make sure to dry it well before putting it back on the vacuum

Wipe it with glass cleaner and a microfiber towel. That should work.

Just got ours in September but it won't shut off without unplugging. If you tilt handle down past 45° it will shut off. The power button triggers between turning light on in on mode but when pressing button again light shuts off but not power.

The brush roll head main window is filled with hair & dirt & there's no easy way to access it. How could they not make this easy to clean & access for replacing the brush roll & cleaning it out? And why make it windowed if you can't access it to clean it? Are they purposefully being joiks?

Replace the entire head unit, they are not that expensive.

If the blue roller is left off, the vacuum will not turn on if the setting is for carpet. Almost threw away a perfectly operational vacuum since the roller came off when my son was using it and never put it back on

If there is a little water on the floor or after washing the dust holder there are some water left over, is it ok when there is some water and you use the vacuum? it will get stopped at the 2 filters? but you don't want too much water right? also why are there so few videos for the canister version?

I would avoid washing the dust canister. It got metal which will rust. Use a leaf blower.

On the bottom by the rollers there are 2 tiny wheels. Mine have lint rolled up in them and I don't know how to get it out. Any tips?

I don't know if Sharp would recommend this, but I figured out that you can pop those wheels out by prying from the middle of the wheel (I use the end of a butter knife to pop them off). Then the wheel's rod can slip right out, instantly freeing any lint rolled around them. Put it together and pop it in. I imagine this might loosen the rod's fitting in the vacuum over time, but for now I haven't run into issues. Tweezers and a knife weren't doing the job for me.

FYI...took my fuzzy brush roller off to clean it today. Promptly dropped it on linoleum floor and plastic broke off one of the sides, looks like little latch do hickey. Costs like 28 to replace it. Dont drop it.

To remove clogs use a long thin blunt object to push anything out.

Hand wash with a little soap. Make sure to rinse out all the soap and let them dry for 24hrs before using again. The washer would destroy them.
