Oddly enough... my parents told me they saw Jaws at a drive-in (remember those?) When I was 2 or 3 years old. Apparently the babysitter had some emergency and couldnt come - so they decided I was probably too young to understand the movie and might sleep through it anyway, and took me. It was probably a young Tiger Shark, not sick. Tiger Sharks don't know what to eat from birth, so they use trial and error to work out what is good food and what isn't. The elderly Tiger sharks aren't dangerous because they know humans aren't good to eat, but the younger ones might still not know which food is good and which isn't, so it saw a free arm and took it. This is the reason why many tiger sharks are found with license plates and tyres in their stomachs, they try everything to learn if it's edible and high in calories.

Tiger sharks are nicknamed “the garbage can of the ocean” for a reason. In particular, they eat a wide variety of prey and just random food matter, as well as the aforementioned junk so I’d say it’s pretty fair to say that it is their nature.

@@waldoman7 That depends highly on your definition of “garbage.” Before humans existed there was no plastic, rubber, glass, radioactive waste, etc. that were all man-made. Before that, they primarily cleaned up large carnage and decaying matter. Their bodies are designed to be able to eat raw meats/bacteria that is found in that. It is in their nature because they are biologically designed to be able to digest that material. They are unable to properly digest the waste that we throw into the ocean today. In addition to that, they have developed high concentrations of mercury in their their system as a long term effect of ingesting man-made waste and chemicals that we’ve dumped into their environment. I would argue that they aren’t “cleaning” what they are naturally designed to clean, and it isn’t in their nature to eat man-made/produced garbage.
