Not unimportant to know: Pulsnitzer gingerbread is the best, much better than the one from Nuremberg. Pulsnitz is in Saxony, it's speciality known in the West only since 1990.

Pfefferkuchen directly translates to Pepper Cake. In German anything saying Pfeffer around the holidays means spices like cinnamon, cardamom, anise, cloves, like what's in Mulled Wine. My family always makes Pfeffernuesse, peppernuts! They're little cookies that look like nuts you can put in your hot drinks 😋
