Took a solo trip to Aizuwakamatsu in Fukushima Prefecture for a 3 day onsen remote-work stay. Aizuwakamatsu is easily accessible from Tokyo by bullet train if you're looking for an escape to the countryside🍃

I’m a long time subscriber and this is my very first comment on KZbin. I’m originally from Shiogama, Miyagi 塩竈市、宮城県。My grand-mother’s family was from Fukushima 福島 and my grandfather’s family was from Asahikawa 旭川, Hokkaido 北海道. I live in Texas for 30 years now. It’s so nice that I get to see videos from Touhoku region 東北地方。I went to a school in Sendai 仙台 and made many friends from Touhoku who are very down to earth and genuine. They are the nicest people I’ve ever met. I didn’t travel Japan very much when I lived there because I was very young and just took it granted. Now I know about all great places to visit in Japan from your videos. Thank you. Keep up great work!!! 頑張って❗️どうもありがとうね❗️

Glad to hear confirmation that yes, many of those hot springs are insanely hot to westerners. When i hear about the temperatures and see the people relaxing in them, i'm usually shocked because it seems so hot. Thank you for showing me i'm not alone in thinking those temps are too high for comfort. Hot tubs in the US don't get as hot as many of their 'average' hot springs

I only ever have the time and privacy to meditate while in the shower. While i'm under the hot shower, i turn on rain sounds and imagine I've got a private hot shower in the middle of the forest. It was just by chance I saw your video of traveling to Aizuwakamatsu. It brought back so many memories of when I lived there in 1979. I cannot speak much Japanese anymore so I was impressed by your ability to read and speak the language. I love Aizuwakamatsu, and I made many friends there. I returned in 2013 and stayed in a ryokan with my wife and son in Higashiyama, Aizu, and enjoyed our private ofuro just like you did. It is a beautiful place, and separated from the more populated areas of Japan. Sakura time there is especially beautiful, but crowded with tourists. Thank you for your video.

@@sharlainjapan When I arrived in Aizuwakamatsu in 2013, I was riding in a taxi, and I commented to the taxi driver that the city looked the same as it did in 1979. The taxi driver told me that he had lived in Aizu for 50 years, and he said it hasn't changed much in those 50 years. In a way, I was glad because it was natsukashii. But then, I wondered how this small growth might be a detriment to future generations to live and support themselves in this community.

At 3:04 I would agree even if I have not eaten those before. I had the chance to have the full tea ceremony done on my last trip to Japan and was given a sugar candy to eat by the guide as he explained the tea ceremony because true green tea is bitter and even if I like my coffee black I needed the sweet. Makes sense to eat a sweet snacks with green tea or any unsweetened tea.

Literally moaned when you showed the onsen. Looks like absolute paradise to me, especially with the pouring rain.
