I’ve always had a difficulty expressing my opinions bc of the way I was raised. I often felt not heard and in my household and whenever I tried to give my opinion it was met with conflict. So in the real world I always thought it was normal behavior for people to take my opinions with conflict. I don’t talk on pretty much anything but I listen to people give theirs with open ears whether I agree or not bc I’ve never wanted someone to feel how I’ve felt. what I’m writing is pretty much off topic I know. But I know in a sense i’m healing or working on it slowly just with the simple fact that I speak with respect or try to, and I don’t get a yelling screaming conflict with anyone. I’m trying to find the courage to speak up and vocalize my opinions.

I grew up in the same way and now I am suffering from it in my personal life and work life and now that I am a mother it is even worse as I don’t want to project this on my child and also show her she should feel in her right to speak up and say her mind.

@@Mae-bu2wu please be brave and teach your daughter to how to stand up for herself and not be afraid to speak her mind. My parents always shamed me for speaking my mind if it wasn’t in line with what they thought or believed, and I have had to learn some hard lessons and experienced severe abuse (in business and personal relationships), bc I was afraid to speak up for myself and defend my personal rights and beliefs. Teach her to set boundaries and value herself above trying to please others in hopes of gaining approval, status, or another’s love. I wish one of my parents instilled that in me. Sending much love and respect to you

Either you can take the easy courageous route or you can take the scholarly unstressful route to understand the metaphysics of you versus your universal self. (You versus your subconscious mind) Thanks to me taking the latter one, I can talk to presidents of countries and anyone without any stress. With this being said, what would you choose? If you take the courageous approach, it is like putting a bandaid on a problem which will eventually fall off.

I am a person that struggles with speaking my truth all the time. For many years I thought that what I had to say didn’t matter because I didn’t love or respect myself but as I get older and I’m trying to improve as a human being I see I have to love myself by expressing what I feel because it does matter. I pray whoever has this struggle as well will overcome it and be able to be and share themselves unashamedly.

I was very confident and outspoken growing up! I never had trouble expressing and voicing my opinions as a kid, but my family is very abusive and everytime I would speak out against them or defend myself, they would silence me and overtime this trained my brain that, speaking out and voicing what you believe in is dangerous and will get me and others hurt. This made very timid and sensitive. I've become a people pleaser and I constantly feel like I have to walk on eggshells around people bc I was trained to avoid conflict and make people happy. This lead to a lack of boundaries because I'm scared of offending anyone!

I actually tried this out in every aspect of my life (including work). Great content -- an incredibly relevant topic in today's world. Unfortunately, I think the shift from being quiet and reserving my own judgment to suddenly voicing it was far too much for the people around me to handle. I've been disciplined, counseled, and even approached by HR -- who specifically told me: "Sometimes keeping our thoughts and opinions to ourselves is the key to thriving in the professional world." Despite all of the negative feedback, I'm going to continue moving forward with this tactic. It's sort of amusing to watch the color drain from somebody's face when you do, in fact, you speak your truth!

Dear Deep my understanding of self respect : [Imagine Self Respect as a fruit : But to get to this beautiful fruit you need to be strong at the roots] now how do you know what your roots are? Your roots start with your value system - what are the values that you will stand for come what may. As long as you guard your values. you are honoring your self. And if you honor yourself you will have your respect intact. And this my friend is nothing but Self Respect. Feel free to reach out to me for any help.

TOO MANY missed opportunity because I was so insecure that if I didn't dumb it down at the public speaking opportunity, young people would grow bored and I would get banished as someone too into things. Now that I already rode that route and failed, I now know to NEVER DUMB myself DOWN because they appear easily swayed by lowest common denominators, belong with what appreciates what I'm offering, everything else is self harm torture of the mind that festers on what else could have been done with that effort/opportunity/group. Being a capable and competent person who is afraid of crass, aggressive, ignorants who never heard an opinion not fueled by fear nor ego is a clear sign I need to pivot and re prioritize in order not to go insane assuming its a life sentence. The times will change and the amount of frantic desperate approval seeking to those who did not earn their right to be so lucky are now behind, buried, and being learned from.

Your information is working great for me. The average person doesn't understand having a relationship with themself. They don't understand what that means. They end up not being able to contemplate this amazing message you have sent. I love the message. I watched it twice already. Your universal self is more complicated than you are and so it is critical that one contemplates what it means metaphysically to have a good relationship with yourself. It is very difficult, because as a kid, your "universal self" started off broken and it probably remained broken all the way until you watched this video. You then ignored the most important message, have a good relationship with yourself first.

Information is one of the most valuable assets in a business or relationship. It pays no efficiency penalty. Speaking, sending and receiving information from you to your coworkers and back, giving and receiving direction, these pay no cost/efficiency toll. Any barrier that gets in the way of sending and receiving this information is an inefficiency. It pays a toll. For you and the beneficiary/team. For your sake, for their sake, for the sake of the team - REMOVE THESE BARRIERS. Even if the team doesn't realize it now. They will soon understand in their easier workflow, less stress, and better relationships. Everyone might second-guess you at first. But NEVER second-guess yourself. Because its for the betterment of the realm.

@nargesafzali this is a deeply thought question. If you look back at Robins formula of better awareness will produce better results - i want to add my experience onto it - you are afraid of higher authority [ take two steps backward and start being present in the moment and reflect on possible outcomes [you can discuss this with your peers] - for all you know the outcomes might be positive - and if you say it with respect and genuine care - your position will be elevated. There will be a sudden power imbalance and you will control the discussion with more power than your boss - in a nutshell you are your boss at that moment - so be present - which will lead to better awareness - which will lead to better choices - a better choice will give you more power to make a better decision - which in 99% cases will lead to a better result. [ you cannot control that 1% so let it not bother you ]. Hope this helps.

It seems when you speak with respect, people create space for your words and it becomes more tolerable even if they eventually end up disliking it. Respectful words add a subtle cushion of good intentions and suddenly you can disagree, critique and challenge people with minimal or no hard feelings.

This is a great talk. Thank you for such positive words. Question: Does honor fit in anywhere here? It was left unsaid and I didn't want to shoehorn that in when it wasn't intended, nor did I want to assume anything. Respect is a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements. Honor, on the other hand, refers to higher respect and great esteem. This is the main difference between honor and respect. Honor can also refer to the social standing or position of a person.

I voiced my opinion this morning about something, but it came out as insulting and ridiculing. The people were not there when I voiced my opinion, and it was in public. I am sorry to anyone that I ever gossiped about, talked about behind their backs, made fun of and for anything else.

I'VE BEEN TOLD BY A LAWYER IN ENGLAND.ASK 4 THE MANAGER.I Done this and the attitude I got was unbelievable. They thought I was on hold.I heard all the conversation."We've got 1 of them on the line"...This was regarding 11 months of back payment of rent from.D.s.s.I'm homeless now...So not always does it work.

Internet and Social Media addiction causes people to make the online world their entire identity and reality. So, when you say something that an Internet-addicted person doesn't agree with, they get hostile. Narcissism is also tied to it, at different levels. Narcissists are ALWAYS right (in their minds). No one is allowed to disagree with a Narcissist - according to them.

Very relavent to nowadays with all this political polarization at the moment. I think that people feel if they have an idea 1 inch outside their groupthink, they're gonna get shut down hard, so they just toe the line. We need to be able to discuss things to be able to think!
