Basic Instinct was perhaps the film that put her on the map because it was the first film she more or less was a lead actress in. Up till then she only had supporting role parts. It wasnt till she was given a role in which the plot revolved around her, that everyone noticed her. With a lesser performer, the role in Basic Instinct would have come off as a B movie-horror-cliche role-but Sharon Stone added an extra dimension to it. She gave more to the role than there was.
