Thanks for this. I see that a diamond "Silky" blade is quite expensive compared to other diamond files. I assume that the price is due to the brand, and no other difference?
@SILKYsaw Жыл бұрын
Hi, this one is a diamond-shaped file, not a Diamond file. It is also what they call a feather file, so there are lines like a feather all over it. Not sure as to why they cost what they do, but unfortunately that is the cost. 😊 Nita

Good video. Not counting the tip, it seems that you are discussing only sharpening 1/4 of the sides on one side, then flipping it over and then sharpening 1/4 of the sides, thus in total, only sharpening 1/2 of the sharpened sides of the teeth?
@SILKYsaw3 жыл бұрын
Hi Larry, sharpening these teeth can be a bit confusing! There are 3 sides to a Silky tooth (including the top angle.) So when you have it secured, you need to sharpen both (2) faces of the teeth on...say the right side of the saw before flipping the blade and doing both sides of the teeth on the left side of the saw. Then if you are doing this for the third time, or have a need to, then you go over the tip of the tooth. I hope this makes sense! 😃 Nita

Will those files and this technique work on impulse hardened Zubat blades? Having a lot of trouble
@gardensandtrees Жыл бұрын
Hi, no you cant sharpen the hardened teeth as the teeth are harder than the file. You will just eat into the file. The only file that would work on a hardened tooth is a diamond file, but you are likely to snap the teeth off while trying to file them. You can buy a replacement blade for any of the Silky Saws. I hope this helps! 😃 Nita.

Question. Im trying to recover a blade that has been misfiled, by me actually. When u file A does the angled piece slope towards the handle or the tip. Assuming its the same for both sides. Thanks
@SILKYsaw6 жыл бұрын
Hi ozbizbozzle, the pointy bit of the tooth points back toward the handle. If you let me know which saw you have we should be able to get you the angle Silky recommends for filing. I am assuming you are talking about the angle depicted in the diagram at about 1:15 in the video. cheers Rick
@SILKYsaw6 жыл бұрын
Hi ozbizbozzle, the point of the tooth is pointing toward the handle. The face A is filed at a certain angle. If you let us know which Silky you have, we should be able to provide you with the angle Silky recommends for filing face A for your saw. The angles differ for the saws according to the work they were designed for. Sounds complicated but is easier than you think. When you file, only file in the push direction and then lift the file and push for the second stroke. Don't saw the file across the tooth. Two strokes per tooth should be sufficient. Even if you can't get your blade back to original, you will have learnt a lot and will feel the difference when you cut. All the Season's best Rick
@SILKYsaw6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ozbizbozzle, we keep trying to reply to you, but it keeps disappearing, sorry. We will keep trying.
@SILKYsaw6 жыл бұрын
Hi ozbizbozzle, the tip of face A points to the handle. This is the cutting face and digs in progressively as you pull the saw toward you. If you let us know the Silky Saw you have we can let you know the Silky recommended filing angle for face A. When filing you should only need two strokes per tooth. Push the file over the the tooth, then lift, return to the start point and push the file again. Don't saw the file back and forward across the tooth. Glad to hear that you are having a go at filing. You will get better and quicker. best regards for the season Rick
