Man , your videos are amazing. You've answered every question I had in my mind about sharpening after watching one of your videos for the first time. Great channel! Cheers from Poland!

Very nice of you to share your knowledge! Some people are afraid to teach folks how to do things for fear of them surpassing them. Clearly you're not that way and I sincerely thank you. :)

Maybe I'm just so overly confident in thinking that no one could surpass my knowledge and skill? ;-) haha Thanks for watching Thom! Happy to share information!

I bought a little diamond/ceramic field sharpener by Work Sharp and have been using it a lot for sharpening quite a few knives without spending a lot of time on them. I'll tell you, I love that thing so far! Great video bud! 👍

Great video. I'm just starting out on whetstones. When starting off with the lower grit, how do you know how long to sharpen the knife for before moving up a higher grit?
@smegmoren3704 жыл бұрын
You need to form a burr (you will feel it by toutching the edge) on one side of the edge,and then to remove it by sharpening on the other side.

Where would you place a honing steel on your rough edge - smooth edge spectrum? Just curious.
@kyle_noseworthy7 жыл бұрын
+Ryan Murphy hey Ryan! Id place it right around the 200-300 grit stone, but it will generally cut slower!

I know you have water stones but do you have any diamond stones and what are your thoughts on them? How long before you leg will let you get back in the woods?
@kyle_noseworthy7 жыл бұрын
Mark Young I like them because they cut quickly, but they wear out. they lose their diamond particle in my experience! not very forgiving for beginners because of its speed. id say ill be able to get on snowshoes within a week or two! hoping!

Thats actually whats suppose to happen Generally Diamond plates have a hard coating on them to protect them from early wear. AFter us a few ugly knives on it it will cut fast and smooth.Just make sure you buys a High quality stuff from Worksharp,or DMT etc I find the cheep ones wear incredibly fast.

so....... everyone uses green strop paste, but I read it's only about 3000 grit. there are red pastes that are 7000... why does nobody use those? Thanks.

I use CrOx equivalent to 30k JIS, get *Lukas feinste Künstlerölfarbe Chromoxid grün stumpf*, but this more for Straight Razor i think, but i testet it on my Mora Companion Carbon MG and it was very good for it.

would never go above 3000 for a kitchen or any other thing thats a axe or outdoors knife etc since it needs to bite in tomato or pig skin etc etc only a yanagiba or takobiki etc needs above 3k and needs about 6-8k but will only be used for fish. other than that a strop is always very good and the rest of the video too 😊
