I have a belt sander for knives but never use it. My diamond plates and strop keep them razor sharp. That said, it amazes me how sharp stropping will keep a blade. Thanks for the video, I had forgotten you bought that little unit.

Same basic idea as the various versions of Derex's Worksarp Knife and Tool Sharpener. However those have the advantage of angle guides (either fixed with 20° or 25° options on the basic version or variable on the Ken Onion version). Of course the Worksharp costs a bit more than the Chinese belt sharpener you bought. Really my only complaint about these sorts of sharpening systems is they're not something for using in the house because they cast metal dust into the air and it gets distributed over the work area. Can't really have that at the kitchen table. So they're more for the garden shed, barn, or maybe the back porch. Well that and as you said Paddy, you have to be careful about ruining your knife (either ruining the temper, taking off too much metal, or rounding off the tip).

Those strop wheels are really handy. I like mine so much that I bought a second one to keep at work for sharpening my chisels. 👍Great video, buddy!

Hey Paddy ☘️ A nice, compact set-up, brother 👌🏼 I've used workshop band saws, belt sanders, grinders, etc... but I have to admit that is a cracking little sander - does the job! 💪🏻 Thanks for sharing, buddy, ATB Gus 👍🏻

Nice setup, not easy takes a while to get used to holding the blade at the right angle but once you master it you develope muscle memory and it becomes second nature

When I was a pipefitter we used to get cheap folding knives to use, always sharpened on belt sanders at work (overkill and ruins the treatment, when using that type of belt grinder (industrial), I once bought a cheap Buck 110 knockoff and used that so much I had half the blade left after 3 years(of course always grinding on 110mm belt or so industrial grinders with 60 grit or 80). I was not into collecting knives then and only has my trusty SAK Swisschamp which is now 27 years old and carried everyday.

Hiya mate nice setup btw, but just one thing. You are grinding metal near your laptop which has very strong magnets in it. It will really attract the metal dust. Nice video, I might check out that device.

Hi Paddy: I seem to remember you had a Worksharp belt system awhile back. Didn’t you like that one? I have it and like it a lot. You get a convex edge, but that’s fine with me. Regards, Bishop

Paddy, I've just noticed your left arm. Have you started to practice doing your own tattoos? Looks like a ghost from the Ghost Busters Film. Can you do one on Slippy live on your show.😁😁 All the best.
