Why, when talking about sharpening, is no-one talking about oil stones these days? I still have my one from 30 years ago and I get better results sharpening freehand with a little 3 in 1 oil than I have using any Waterstone and hone guide combination that I have tried. I bought water stones and found it took more than twice as long to get a decent edge that was no where near the quality of my old india oil stone.

The gentleman from Veritas did a excellent presentation however it would have been much better if the person from Axminster had been quite not interrupted and asked stupid questions

MKII can not be made 90 degrees no matter what anyone does. There are 1000's of people on forums all saying the same. It ultimately has a flawed design that even Veritas can not fix and they know about the problem. Had one for three years and sold it, went back to hand sharpening

Hej, I’m new to sharpening / honing and so would be grateful if you could expand on your statement :- ”MKII can not be made 90 degrees no matter what anyone does. ” Pardon my inexperience, but I’m not exactly sure what you mean - are you saying that a blade cannot be made to sit at 90° to a sharpening stone, or? I was just debating on buying this when I originally saw this comment and it almost made me avoid purchasing the jig, but boy am I glad I didn’t listen to this person. First off I went to try and find all this “common knowledge” and the thousands of people they were talking about and the only threads I found about any issues were all user error that was corrected through the conversation during the threads. Second, I have since received and used the mkii deluxe kit and it’s excellent, I have zero issues with maintaining square, in fact one of the first blades I did was an old plane blade I received from someone and the blade was already 1/4 of an inch out of square from the last owner, the jig allowed me to correct that issue and get it back flush which was absolutely amazing and a testament to its effectiveness and accuracy. So if your on the hunt for a high quality sharpening jig, please don’t let this persons misinformation dissuade you, buy the tool with confidence and know it’s money well spent!!
