Great footage of the eagle snatching up that trout.

I used to fish Lava Lake, outside of Bend, Oregon. When the Bald Eagles were nesting or were showing their kids how to fish, it was almost impossible to let your catch go without feeding the eagles. We were all catch and release and it was funny to watch us try to hide our release so they could get away.

Shasta’s a huge lake to be exploring with a kayak. Nice size rainbow though, and browns are always fun.

That eagle is always out begging for food. He’s a common sight and we always throw him a bite.

Those eagles are smart! I went on an excursion in Alaska on a remodeled fishing boat and hundreds of eagles would swoop down waiting for the captain to throw some fish up to them. Had them literally trained to follow the boat for food.

The editing for that trout was hilarious. Still looks like a fun time out on the water. Those are some nice sized trout.

Amazing contrast, I was in the area in the late 90s the lake was so full they had to let some flow over the top of the dam creating an amazing man made waterfall thousands of people came to see it

Why not run two down riggers? Wouldn’t that increase your chances of a hook up and maybe balance your kayak better? Or would the lines get all tangled up when you turn?
@spiltmilt2 жыл бұрын
Mostly because I think it's not needed. The kayak isn't really out of balance with the downrigger on there and track very well. Also I like running dropper weights and downriggers as usually one of the other will out perform the other.

You've mentioned water temps they prefer, and I was wondering what temp you notice they prefer? Such as if you showed up at a lake and water temp was X, how do you go about deciding depth to target?
@spiltmilt2 жыл бұрын
Trout and kokanee generally prefer 55-58 F water. I have a camera with a sensor I can drop to varying depths to determine the ideal depth.
@Nik-gh6gz2 жыл бұрын
Every lake is different based on many different factors. You can always buy a thermometer that is meant for recording water temps at depth and send it down on your downrigger. I believe they sell them on amazon for a couple bucks. So you could mark fish on the fish finder, then measure the temp you are marking them at and troll at that depth. However, Factors like bait/food, oxygen, currents and time of year levels can be more important than depth.
