I was 13 years old in 1983 when my schoolmate turned me on to Big Country. I was hooked and a fan instantly. I am 50 years old and still amazed at the talent that was Stuart Adamson. He would love this version for sure.

great version of one of Stuart Adamsons' "deepest " songs - really, really good. Stuart's songs mean so much, to a lot of people and it, brings a lump to the throat,seeing quality musicians playing that song so welll
@MustangCoupe195111 жыл бұрын
What an incredible lineup. I have said for years that if you had a collection of all of Darrell's solo albums; collaborations with Tim O'Brien and others; albums he has produced; played back up (a huge collection by itself) and covers of his songs played by others, you would not need to leave the house for a month - or venture to any other genre because Darrell covers some serious ground - from bluegrass, Americana and good ole rock and roll. "Darrell Scott is a 'monster talent."

Another powerful one by Darrell and crew. BTW: I think that's Russ Barenberg on mandolin a truly talented and versatile musician. But probably most in the room are in that category.

About the 10th (or more) time watching/listening I picked up on the fact that the melody break in the middle and at the end is played by the pipes, mandolin, dobro, fiddle, and accordion all at the same time. Clearly excellent musicianship and definitely adding to the power of the piece. Whew!

The opening tribute refers to the late Stuart Adamson - vocalist and guitarist with "Big Country". Big Country were massive in the 80's with anthemic songs and a ringing bagpipe-like guitar sound.
@victoredwards05307 жыл бұрын
My heart sank as I hear Darrell talking about Adamson, a veritable slug alcoholic and drug addict, who died at his own hands by hanging himself in a hotel closet in Hawaii. I frankly am not taking my "wisdom" from such an immoral person.
@keirrobinson41565 жыл бұрын
@@victoredwards0530 you disgust me talking about an absolute legend in that way. I hope you never succumb to any of the problems Stuart experienced in the last years of his life (marriage difficulties, extreme professional pressure just for starters). And finally, if you had ever seen Stuart live (or any live recordings of him) you would never call him a "veritable slug" >:(

Good news for all fans is the release of the DVD "Transatlantic Sessions: Series 3" bringing together the best of Nashville, Ireland and Scotland to perform what has been called "the greatest backporch shows ever". All of the six half-hour programmes from the BBC/RTÉ TV series are included, recorded in a beautiful old converted farm steading in the Perthshire Highlands.

Some of the folkie elite here wouldn't give Stuart the time of day when he was alive and here they are playing his music, hypocrites. Not talking about Darrell Scott here or Paul Brady, have a lot of time for both of them. Note: this song was brought to the Transatlantic Sessions (a Scottish programme) by AN AMERICAN!!! Darrell Scott is a great talent and deserves every success.

Anyone know where to chords are posted for this song? I haven't found anything, but my best guess so far is that it is Capo 2, Em7, Gadd9, Dsus4, C2 for the most part. Now, the difficult part is getting that incredible sounding strum down part. If anyone has anything to add, or a site that already has this posted, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to spend some time listening to this and creating some chord sheets for myself! Great song!

I love these session clips. Unfortunately someone took off Tim O'brien's "My Girl's waiting for Me" at these sessions. It was the best quality of this song on utube. The only bad thing about these sessions is the make up makes them all look like ghosts. Look at Tim O'brien on "Brother Wind". He looks really wierd.

The band is wonderful. Darrell should've remembered the line, "you don't mess around with a manic depressive"-They took that out of the original lyrics fpr some reason, I guess it isn't Kosher, but you know, maybe the next generation will get it. Song writing is in demand at a full.
