George-When I started watching lakeside properly in the early 90s, IIRC there was about an hour of highlights of that night's games on around 11pm and extended highlights or maybe full matches the following afternoon. I don't think it was shown live much apart from the final. This is before 'red button' and any Internet to spoil results. They just wouldn't give 3-4 hours of e peak evening bbc2 over to darts

John Lowe done the first televised nine dart leg at the MFI World Matchplay of 1984, Paul Lim achieved the first in the BDO World Championships against Jack McKenna. But both of these were not shown live!!!...Shaun Greatbatch will always be remembered for the first 9 darter televised live...

@666Tormentor666 There is a big misunderstanding about this and it has to do with what was taped for later broadcast and what was broadcast live. Lowe's 9 darter in '84 was taped for TV but it was not broadcast live. This one here was the first one broadcast live on TV but because it was only shown in the Netherlands, it is often ignored. Taylor vs. Mason '02 was the first 9 darter to be televised live in Britain and as such is often erroneously credited as being the first 9 darter on live TV.

This was the first on LIVE TV ever in any country, it was televised live in 2002 in the Netherlands. Phil Taylor’s 9-dart finish on live UK TV (Sky Sports) happened a few months later. Soon hopefully an American will throw a 9 on TV, or at least one will be thrown here on American soil, Phil Taylor threw the only TV 9 darter on Australian soil in 2015 during the Sydney Darts Masters, who’ll do it HERE???

Clearing a 501 score in exactly NINE DARTS, the minimum, there are many combinations to achieve this feat, 180, 180, and 141 is probably the most common although you also go 180, 177, and 144, or 180, 174, and 147, I believe there may be others but yes THAT is a 9-dart finish or “9-darter”

This match was LIVE on Dutch tv therefore it WAS the proper first LIVE 9 darter in the world. Just because it wasn't shown in the uk doesn't make it not so!!!! Also Paul lim 9 darter was not shown live. It happened in an afternoon session when the bbc were showing other programmes. It was only RECORDED and shown later in the evening so get your facts straight
