Colonial Williamsburg.. yes! And Jamestown is another place to go, they have replicas of the old sailing ships that came 1607. Godspeed, and her sisters in the 1607 voyage, the larger Susan Constant and the smaller Discovery, are docked in the James River at Jamestown Settlement.

Hey Sean the Scots were just as important in Virginia as settlers as they were in the Carolinas. It's a great legacy historically as they really helped to shape and guide the early history of our nation. Cheers to you & speaking of freedom I hope that this lockdown ends soon & we defeat the virus.

This is so true! To this day, Rockingham County, Virginia has the highest density of Scots and Ulster-Scots surnames in the U.S. dating from the 1700s, and Augusta County, Virginia was also a seat of Scottish and Ulster-Scot families. The Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church records is where I can find my own ancestors.

yes, my great - grandmother was of Scottish heritage, and she was born in West Virginia. The family consensus is her family emigrated to the Virginia colony after the last Jacobite rebellion in the 1750's, but oral history is all we have.

Another longtime viewer from Virginia here! I've loved researching about my own ancestry and connection to Scottish immigrants to Virginia and the Carolinas prior to the Revolutionary War. When I read the Outlander books, I felt so personally connected to those parts of the story and it really helped bring to life for me what my ancestors experienced in their daily life. Hope you do get a chance to visit here! Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, various battlefields, the beach, the mountains, Mount Vernon (George Washington's home), Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's home), Lynchburg (where Lord John Gray and Willie lived in the books), Richmond (capital city and, fun fact: home to the only Class IV urban rapids), Burke's Garden in Tazewell (a unique, high-altitude valley... look it up!)... SO much history, so much beautiful hiking and scenery.

Richmond, VA here! Great place to visit as the capital of the state. Great art, food, and history! Visit Church Hill for Historic St. John’s Church where Patrick Henry gave his famous speech or “Give me liberty, or give me death!” when supporting the cause of revolution. If you’ve visited London and Richmond, England - our city was named for the bend in the River Thames of Richmond. You can see it from Libby Hill Park not far from St. John’s Church. Definitely recommend it.

We were the "Highlanders" and I never really knew why until watching your channel and seeing some of the history of Scottish heritage in that part of America. I just looked on the school website and it says "In the 1970s, Radford adopted the nickname "Highlanders" for the athletic teams in celebration of the Scottish heritage of Southwest Virginia. In keeping with the Scottish theme, school colors were changed from purple and gray to the tartan plaid colors of red, white, blue, and green. The school newspaper was renamed and the literary magazine adopted the name ."

I've seen a few channels where they don't even bother to thank the person and throw it to the side like it's nothing. It's a lot of time and effort and cost to ship to the UK, which I'm sure you know. My best friend lives in Wath Upon Dearne in England and the post costs more than the contents. I would love it if you do wind up emigrating to the US, so fingers crossed there - BUT...I have an idea for your next trip. What would you think of putting together an itenerary (like say hiking the Appalachian Trail on X date) and having someone sponsor you as your tour guide for the day? Travelling is very expensive and they could show you the best trail, best restaurant or tour and get to hang out with you and your wife for a few hours. That way you're getting the whole American experience. Sign me up for Galveston :) We have the best seafood on the Gulf and Moody Gardens. I think you'd have a blast. Anyway, just a thought! I ordered these from Swanson Vitamins in Chicago .If you want to know what they are meant to help you can go on their site and find descriptions or google each one by name. I was concerned to see you feeling fatigued and down because I feel that way myself quite often so I ordered them for you immediately Your work has often made things a little bit better for me so I hope these may help you also. And now I feel a mood lift also because one of my packages finally made it to you. Too bad the Chocolate and mead didn't make it will try again another time. P.S. I have heard there is a Re-Wild Scotland movement .Are you familiar with this ?I would love to hear more about it or maybe it's better suited for Scotland with Shaun.

Fun fact. Did you know that the Appalachian mountains were once from the same mountain range as the mountains in the Scottish Highlands? Before the land broke apart to create continents. When the earth was just 1 continent. I think that's why the Carolina's and surrounding area reminded immigrating Scots of the highlands during the clearances. So there's always been a great connection to the land there billions of years ago they were attached in the land before time. Fascinating. The Central Pangean Mountains were an extensive northeast-southwest trending mountain range in the central portion of the supercontinent Pangaea during the Carboniferous, Permian and Triassic periods. They were formed as a result of collision between the minor supercontinents Laurussia and Gondwana during the formation of Pangaea. At its greatest elevation during the early part of the Permian period, it was comparable to the present Himalayas. Remnants of this massive mountain range include the Appalachian Mountains and Ouachita Mountains of North America, the Little Atlas of Morocco, Africa and much of the Scottish Highlands including Ben Nevis.

I’m from originally from VA and I have never heard of Narrows. I’ll have to look it up to even see what county it is. It’s rare that I hear of a Virginia city or town and don’t know the name as I lived in many different parts of the state. Surely it’ll be by something I know.

Virginia is the oldest State it is known as the Old Dominion because it stayed loyal to the Crown during the English Civil War in the 1630s. The other Dominions were England, France, Scotland, Ireland. Virginia was called the 5th Dominion and is now known due that as the Old Dominion. It would be cool to fly into Norfolk and drive to Bristol. You could do Colonial Williamsburg on the way out on Interstate 64 to 81. You basically see it all doing that. Stay in Abingdon as well it is very cool. Barter Theater etc.

Oh my gosh Ubiquinol (and Turmeric, Vit D and Manganese) made a HUGE difference in my life with inflammatory conditions. A great doctor recommended them to me after I had Covid-19 last spring and had a hard time bouncing back. Very very good stuff. Great send from that viewer!

You should come back to Orlando during the Highland games we put on every year. It’s kinda fun as we do the traditional sports from the old times. It’s a fun time. Though I don’t actually do the sport myself as I am toward the skinny side so not my thing but it’s fun to watch. And yes universal and Disney right down the road. But seriously stay a month and learn how it is to live here as we don’t do theme parks that often normally as it’s more a laid back place and you can work while raising a family type thing. New York is seriously too crowded and too expensive like la which is the same. Plus you don’t pay the insane taxes or extra fees like other states just think about it.

They had rules for making the abbreviations, but it's still confusing. Generally, they went down the list in alphabetical order, but they did the 2-word names first. For each state or territory, they applied the rules until they got one that didn't spell a 2-letter word, didn't conflict with a previous one, didn't have the same letter doubled, and had a consonant. The order of the rules is: international standard country code, compliant traditional 2-letter abbreviation, first letter of each word in multiple-word state names, first and last letter, first and second letter, first and third letter, etc. So you get Alabama = AL, Alaska = AK, American Samoa = AS, Arizona = AZ, Arkansas = AR. US Virgin Islands = VI and Virginia = VA. More than anyone ever needed to know about this, I'm sure.

What do you think about the passing of the prince? And how are you feeling about William and Harry? Do you think they will mend things? Can you do an episode of it all? You live out there so you hear things that we here in the states don't.

I’ve been watching your dc trip Videos and you actually have been in Virginia a couple times! Dulles airport is about 25 miles away from DC and is in Virginia. Arlington National cemetery is in Arlington, Virginia and the NRA headquarters are in Fairfax Virginia. As soon as you cross the river, you are in Virginia! The pentagon is also in Virginia. So technically, on 9/11, DC was never hit but Virginia was.
