This castle was amazing! I never knew that taking the roof off of these beautiful buildings gives the owner a tax exemption. I can understand from an owners point of view but how sad for the history of the building. I'm looking forward to seeing those older videos. As usual, great idea, Shaun.

@@deborahdanhauer8525 When you walk in to the castle as it is now, you are actually walking through the old basement so everything you see at ground level are storage places, cellars etc which were under the main floor. The ruins as you see it now are all additions made in the 1700s and 1800s. The original castle built in the 1500s is that square red brick part in the middle of the ruins, with the octagonal tower. The contrast of those two things was hilarious! 😅 But seriously, this was so much fun to watch. I loved the history with the exploration. Bring back as much content from previous places as you want. Great stuff. I lived just up the road (in Peterhead) as a child and used to play in Slains with my mates. Been there loads of times... Close by is a hamlet called Whinnyfold where Bram Stoker lived in a small house (called "The Crookit Lum" - right next door to my best friend at school who's parents still live there). You can clearly see the castle from there (looks very scary in the right light) and rumour has it Stoker began writing Dracula after a nightmare in that very house. The location, and the day itself, were breathtaking. I wonder if this is the castle I read about, where they have to keep people from accidentally falling off the cliff (due to brave but foolish choices). They had a local, specialized rescue team. Also, my brain thought you said, "This is a refreshed edit of a fantastic place called Bruce Lee's castle." While this is possible, I'm pretty sure I misheard you. FanTAStic video Shaun!! I jumped over to a web browser and got a fair amount more history on it and the original Spain's castle. The latest Amazon Kindle has the WORST KZbin software and it jumped out before I finished putting it all down. Grrrr. So yon business man bought it about a hundred years ago and trashed the place to avoid the tax. Some of the Earls family regained possession of it and got permission to build it back up into holiday apartments. That's been on hold since09. Maybe they would let us buy it and we could put one roof on and divide it between us into decent sized apartments? Would be nice! Don't know much about Aberdeen and how much snow and how cold it gets but I didn't read the family was looking to unload it so it doesn't matter. I will have the section with the big kitchen since it gave you the willies. Well, and what is over the kitchen. 😁 Thanks for a FUN video!!
