This makes me so happy! Several years ago, my daughter and niece were going to Shawn’s concert in Tampa. We’re from Texas and vacationing in Tampa (so our girls could see Shawn.) We dropped the girls off around the arena and the traffic was horrific. We turned the corner from the drop off and my sister noticed someone sitting right outside the arena’s private entrance. She noticed because she commented on how sad that person seemed. He was sitting on the ground and listening to something with AirPods in. He looked sad and lonely and we wondered why that person would be in that area listening to AirPods. My sister said, “I think that Shawn.” I said, “No way would Shawn be sitting outside alone right before his concert.” As we got closer, we realized it was Shawn. 😢 I’ve never felt so sad for another human being. Here he was, Shawn Mendes, thousands of people filing in to watch this amazing person and performer and he had no idea how special he is. It was absolutely obvious that he was in his head and trying to drown out the noise so he would be able to get up on stage and make people happy. Not long after that, I watched Shawn’s documentary and I then realized the living hell he was living in. I’m glad he stepped back to heal himself and now he seems like he’s in the best headspace and is actually able to enjoy what he does best and that’s sharing his kind heart with people. Gosh bless you, Shawn. Thanks for sharing your vulnerability with the world and best of luck with this amazing album!

Shawn is arguably the most genuine Pop artist ever to exist. He's very awared of limelight's perception & continuously works to figure out / come back to his stripped-back self. Every INFJ goes through phases of like "I just wanna be alone in the woods, man". I'm also very slow at processing tragedies; takes a long while for it to hit all at once.

I think he is highly sensitive. Many artists are.These people are sensitive, very empathetic and very creative. They have a more sensitive nervous system and a more complex brain. They experience things differently, more intensely and think long and deeply about everything. About 1 in 5 people have this personality trait. But they often only find out when they get tangled up. They always try to comply with 'what should be' and what others expect of them. But this often leads to an unhappy life. Glad Shawn found his true self...
@VEGAS-NERVE4 ай бұрын
Yes, I read the book ‘Highly Sensitive Person’ and related so much to it. If these people are put in really nourishing environments amazing things can happen, but on the flip side, difficult things in life are felt much more deeply and can damage them more than a non-sensitive person. I think Shawn has been on both sides of this.

Even at 57, I am so blessed by this. It takes great courage and love for yourself to say, "I am not OK". To walk away was the best thing for his mental health and that is coming from someone who battles anxiety and depression weekly. I took me my entire life so far... to say, "I have not here to please others, but to please God" I am more than enough and will not allow others to put their hope in me and put on me to fix their problems. Good for you Shawn, so proud of your growth! It needs to be normalized to say, I am done!!! God bless you and Jay for the work that you guys do to bring mental health to the forefront!

Oh wow! Thank you so much for being so open about your feelings. It is so important for many people to hear that you can be at a wonderful place of your life but when "depression" hits, the lense gets totally distorted. It helps with understanding that this is not the truth being seen and felt that very moment. And understanding that receiving love is so much more difficult than giving love is a huge one... Take care. Always. Wonderful hosting, Jay.

It's so hard to show the most authentic version of yourself, yet he does it so gracefully. For some reason, I was sobbing through about 80% of this interview. You can really see how Shawn is working on himself right now, and it really inspires me to do the same. I think we tend to get so lost in our everyday lives and responsibilities that we forget how important it is to connect with ourselves and our deeper feelings. Listening to this podcast allows your mind to slow down for that one and a half hours of the day. Thank you for doing the podcast, Jay. I'm also a big fan of your book How to Think Like a Monk. I'm reading it for the second time because I realized how far I've drifted from living in awareness. When I read your book, I see the world differently-more positively. So, thank you for helping my mind slow down in this fast-paced world

so pure and genuine... it was sad seeing him go through everything the way it was, but now we're able to comprehend how necessary it all was. he's in his best moment of all times; i'm just so happy to watch his growth. you are beyond enough, shawn. what a beautiful soul

This is really good conversation. I know it's focused on Mendes but I think it's good to say "regular" people go through similar things in life and also have a hard time processing it. It's nice to hear it out loud and definitely going to take some things away from it. It's tough, life doesn't stop for any of us to process many things that burden us daily consciously or unconsciously.
