From the crowd pleasing Rocker to the arrogant heartbreak kid to the beloved show stealing showstopper to the cocky degenerate, the 1990s was the evolution of Shawn Michaels that saw him transition from tag team beginner to quite possibly the greatest in ring worker of all time. I appreciate how seriously Bret Hart took his character and the business in general. And it’s 100% to be expected- he was raised by a legendary wrestler, and earned his way from the lower mid-card up to headliner / championship status. You would take yourself very seriously, too! He was barely ever home to see his family, and was always out working. Shawn seemed a little too cocky and like he was living a little too “fast and loose” outside the ring. Imagine how a very serious, professional guy (Bret) would view a cocky guy that thought he was a rockstar (Shawn). It speaks volumes that Taker, another guy who treated the business as a very serious lifestyle, sided with Bret’s perspective over Shawn’s attitude. When he came back in the 2000s as a born-again, humbled guy, Shawn was MUCH more likeable. He also had matured as a storyteller and had the best matches of his career. I wish we had gotten the chance to see mature Bret versus mature Shawn. I have a feeling we’d still be talking about that match today as a best-ever contender.
@intrigued16 Жыл бұрын
I have the same take with everything you said and I believe all 3 of these Legends would agree as well. Also yes, Brett and Shawn had more then a few great matches the way it was. But man, if they could have been on the same page with Shawn's head screwd on right as well, they would have given us so so much more. Arguably 2 of the best ever in-ring performers. Definitely in the top 5 without question, At that point, though, it's all a matter of a fans preference of who someone likes more. Anyways, good comment, I don't think you could have worded it or put it in a better way.

I grew up in this era, and i never saw davey as mid card in this period. He was always on the brink of a title run to me

The Rockers were my favourite tag team when I was getting into wrestling in the late 80s. I still remember how shocked I was when I saw Shawn superkick Marty through the Barber Shop window. After that though Shawn became one of my favourites and would eventually overtake Bret as my favourite wrestler.

He threw him thru the window. Didn’t super kick him into it

It's funny how Shawn believed that Taker wasnt there at Gorilla at Mania 14 to make sure to drop the title, just because Taker told him he wouldn't have done that. Just recently Taker has confirmed that he was at Gorilla to make sure he did the job and would have beat Shawn senseless lmfao. He just knew shawn and didnt wanna hurt his feelings 😂😂

Undetaker is a pussy too. Him and brett. Im sure Shawn and china could smack up that dweeb. Maybe not Shawn by himself but im sure someother star would help. Really make taker the deadman.

they did that collapse great!!! I remember watching that and asking my dad, do you think that was real and my dad said '' hold on ill let you know''. Well when the paramedics came out on their own and not with heart defibrillator, and it looked like the paramedics were just as surprised as the viewers. My dad said "" if they would have came out with all the medical equipment ready to go, then yea it would seem planned, but they came out and looked surprised"" for once it seemed like Vince did something right!!!!

If I’m not mistaken, Bret has never legit been beaten by Austin or Taker (the two most over guys in history). He did a great job keeping himself strong

@@dericharris7835 Brett had the call to win/loose against anyone. Brett hated Micheals in real life.

People act like Bret wasn't into himself at that time. He wasn't a prick like Shawn was, but his ego was as big if not bigger than Shawn. At the time of his peak, Bret lost clean only to members of his family. He never did put over anyone else clean. And that includes Shawn. WM 12 wasn't clean at all, match ended in a draw, when Bret had Shawn in the middle of the ring in his sharpshooter. And fun fact, nobody in history has ever broken that hold.

As a kid, I hated Shawn Michaels, because all my friends loved him and unfortunately for me, he beat all my faves, including Bret Hart, Mankind and Undertaker. As I grew up, though I know he was a self-absorbed a**hole backstage, in the ring, he’s now, easily one of my 10 favorites and I always felt, even when I hated him, that Sweet Chin Music is probably the best finisher of all time.
