Shawn finally got back into the shop to work on the ‘65. Made a little more progress and its coming along great. It’s getting exciting to know that I have checked a few things off the list.

Hey Dirtbilly Deluxe! Love the truck progress vids! The best KZbin content is from channels where the people are doing what they would normally be doing and if you took the cameras away they wouldn't do it any different! You folks are for real cool! Ride ride ride!

If you had a piece of copper bus bar, you could use it as a backing plate to fill that gap with weld. Since you can't weld copper, it works very well. Back when I was on my tools, I used it to weld up drill holes where they were drilled in the wrong spot. I still have pieces in my fabrication tools.

Yes a half inch thick bus bar is a nice tool to own and very handy to have in the toolbox.

You can hammer a piece of 3/4" copper pipe flat to use for that purpose.

Yeah, in a pinch, which means every time I fill holes...lol I use a piece of 2x4 wood. Works good enough for me.

He would need either 4 hands or another person and about 2 hours to fill that. Holes sure but if actually uses the box that’s cracking immediately

@KevinHaley-hv9hd back in the day on new projects they would throw it away. We would dig it out and save it. That was the days before recycling rolloff boxes

Brings back good memories of my brothers '64. My first experience with a 3 on the tree! he got rid of it and got a '72. Broke my heart. Then he trashed the '72 and broke my heart again! Now he regrets the whole thing. At 65yo. Tried to tell him not to trash those trucks!

Great work Shawn ! Lift the back of the cab up 1-1/2 " and the front of the bed @1/2" so it doesn't look like the cab mounts rotted, and you'll have a Jewel of a truck. Rock On !

Shawn just use a steel coat hanger for filling in gaps as they work good with using your welder.

Can also use welding rod with the flux knocked off.

Love the 65. Matching an old body to a new frame and drive train is a lot of work. Troubleshooting the little details is time consuming. When its "finished" it will be a cruiser. 😎

Shawn for the computer mount, you could try to build a bracket under the battery plate, but essentially it would have to be a box, because you'll need to protect the sensitive equipment from whatever. If only you could mount it inside the cabin.

Before pull the bed off. Crawl underneath and mark out some support plates to weld on the bottom. So you can attache your hanger bars for securing the bed. Instead of pulling it off n on multiple times.

Hey Shawn, The ole 65 is coming along great. I had a 65 back in the 80s and loved it. Of coarse mine had the org frame in it. I put a 350ci with a muncie 4 speed in it. Great little everyday truck. I wish I still had it but you know how that goes. It won't be long before the wifey is tooling around in it. Later

Freakin' love the '65 body style. They look fast without even moving for some reason. hahaha When I fill gaps that big, I usually put a piece of 1" x 1/8th" strap, spanning the entire length, under it for added strength. Especially if that area will hold a load later on. I'm lazy though and hate bridging a line that long. hahaha! Looking awesome, Shawn! Can't wait to see it when you're done.
