As much as Jules and Shawn break my heart here, nothing stung quite as much as Lassiter watching the prerecorded video of Shawn. He didn’t even let the man finish before ejecting the disk and snapping it in half. Lassiter knew Shawn wasn’t psychic, he knew since day one, but he still didn’t want to hear him admit it out loud. That was what really broke my heart (and I loved every moment of it you beautiful, heartbreaking genius show writers and producers)

I just watched this scene for the first time, and as much as I knew that it was eventually coming and Jules did find out, I was not prepared for how emotional this scene would be. Absolutely heartbreaking enough already, and then when that flashback started it was a twist of the knife as we saw all our favourite moments with the two. Absolutely brilliant written scene and performed so well but my gosh does it hurt.
@seanf87923 жыл бұрын
I think this was probably on purpose, since we know him, and have always known, and sympathize: but does this feel like a villain speech to anyone else. In fairness, (thinking about it with less than full knowledge myself), there was probably no really “good” way for him to answer her question without it being _very_ manipulative. While he definitely didn’t say it as harshly as he possibly could have, yes, it is a bit villain-y.

My favourite part of this scene is how Shawn is not at all sympathetic. He comes across as the bad guy. He doesn’t apologise properly. He tries to rationalise and argue. For a character who was consistently shown to be genuine to the women around him (e.g. not leading women on etc.) this actually felt out of character. And not in a ‘bad writing’/‘bad acting’ way. Shawn, the character, is acting against his own drives because he is forced into a moment where conflicting parts of himself must face one another. And he handles it badly. And that is great. He is truly weak here, and he shows his vulnerability by putting up the defenses. But doing that just hurts him. It’s such good writing and acting. Felt weird the first time watching it. It felt uncomfortable. But that’s what it was meant to be. So, well done.

They all were willing to believe that he had visions rather than that he was just that good. He told the truth, but they wouldn't believe him. Then he lied, and it wasn't even that great of a lie, and that was what they bought. Because their own pride wouldn't let them believe that one guy could be better at what they did, rather it had to be 'visions' instead. I don't really see why she is so angry. I think she knew all along that he wasn't, but she went along with it anyway. And Lassie, he knew too, knew that Shawn was THAT good, but he refused to admit it. Because what would he, a guy who devoted his whole life to his job and his wife left him for it, be able to do in the face of that truth. I don't blame Shawn for it, he told the truth and would have been punished for it. In that sort of situation, he lies and it's more believable. That's just sad.

For sure Juliet is a hypocrite in this instance especially considering that for a time she dated another guy who just like SHawn was a fraud pretending to be something he really wasn't, Declan. ANd after Declan admitted as much to Juliet she forgave him and they went about being together just fine. So was kinda hypocritical of her to be so unforgiving and spaz out on Shawn like this when he came clean about it. She forgave Declan pretty much immediately after he told her the truth, should be no differentwith Shawn regardless of how long they have known each other.

Yeah, he could have easily lied to her . . . again, but he clearly is having a moment of realization while he is looking at everyone. So he decided to stop lying to her and finally tell the truth. He didn't tell her the truth because she caught him and he couldn't figure out a good enough lie to explain it all away, he told her the truth because he decided to.

I've always thought that him not being psychic is more impressive. Now that jules knows the secret, she should try and comprehend how good of a detective shawn is, probablyy the best in the world. He may of lied about being psychic, but every case he did, he without a doubt got the right person and didn't falsify any evidence .

I still suscribe to the fact that everybody knew this man wasn’t really a psychic. I mean just take another look at the intro song lyrics. I don’t really get why Jules is mad here tbh, like is it a “breach of trust”, or did she really believe that this man was a psychic. Edit: NVMD remembered that whole thing about her dad now. Makes more sense
@ProfArmitage2184 жыл бұрын
Shawn regularly does things like break into a suspect's home or place of business, look for clues, and then "psychically" find them later. In Burdeau v. McDowell (1921), the court ruled that search and seizure rules don't apply to private citizens acting on their own initiative, and evidence collected by civilians is admissible in court even if it was collected in ways that would make it inadmissible if a sanctioned law enforcement agent did it. Shawn is a consultant collecting a paycheck from the police department for work performed on their behalf, so Burdeau v. McDowell wouldn't apply. If it became known what he's actually been doing, every case he ever touched would have grounds for an appeal, whether he broke the law in a particular case or not.

I mean, they brought it up in a few episodes early on next season, but I do think it was wrapped up a little too quickly. They should have given it more time to explore the new dilemma more. Overall though, I don't think it was done badly, it just wasn't done as well as it could have been.
@jasonthomas91104 жыл бұрын
@@artsman412 Yeah they brushed over it, but the only thing that changed differently was Jules attitude towards Shawn. Like she never questioned his abilities and how he figured out everyone of their cases. The later seasons were getting pretty lazy with their writing. Yes they were entertaining, but lacked something the first couple of season had. Imo I think they could have done so much more with it, but it felt like they were getting lazy with it.

As much as I love this show (and I LOOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE this show) you gotta wonder at how stupid the entire police force was to believe Shawn was psychic
@realBlueMoonMusic3 жыл бұрын
I mean it's not unreasonable. They have no reason to doubt otherwise. His skills are incredible, far beyond the skill of even the chief and Lassie, but it's all trapped in the body of a man-child. This person lives up to his "psychic" claims, living as a psychic for 7 years up until this episode. At first, there was probably a lot of doubt but those were relatively put to rest for a multitude of reasons: 1. He's solving crimes more efficiently than a detective (and many of them do not know about Henry... they didn't even know who the former chief from Henry's day was, much less a detective) 2. The lady from the first episode believed him because she believes in all of that stuff. She then vouches for him over the course of their cases, gradually winning over most of the others on the force. 3. Their glorious chief, the head honcho herself, hires them. They can assume that background checks are done on consultants so they have no reason to doubt Psych. 4. He's getting the job done. If he's faking it, no one cares. He's just solving crimes and that's that. 5. Buzz (not a reason but he deserves a mention on this list) 6. Like I said earlier, Shawn doubled down quite a bit. He opened up a psychic detective agency, never REALLY contradicted his story (or he found a passable excuse), and worked at it for 7 years. His actions were generally the same and nothing ever really stood out. He never left any evidence of his analysis until this scene.
