It wasn’t like the heroin came out of nowhere he was a heroin addict since like 13 I believe. There was a lot of things that added on like racial tensions, look at him perform that one song on that talk show and see how the white ladies in the audience (the whole audience) were laughing, looking at each other and nobody was screaming or cheering him on like other acts of that time. He still smiled and gave them a great performance when they were clearly disgusted by him even being there in the first place. Not even to mention how he was treated in the industry as a black kid in the 40s-50s and it isn’t documented there’s probably horrible things that we’ll never know happeend

You otta try Little Anthony and the Imperials. I had a chance to meet him in his later years, and he was just as sweet as could be. Only thing that got everyone in the room was PLEASE don’t call me LITTLE!!! I’ve got 8 grandkids!!! We had a great chat and was very excited to actually meet him because he was 58 I think at the time. He said I don’t know how much longer I’ll be around, but I’m glad I met you! He was the original Michael Jackson. Talented boy & man who took the wrong path unfortunately... A group "the students" recorded a song called "7 days of the week". They sounded like "the teenagers". Good doo wop song. Was great to stomp to. 😄💫

It wasn't really money since most of the recording acts at the time, let alone the younger kid acts were ripped off by the record companies, and especially the Black stars and I'm sure Frankie and his group were among them. I believe it was more the liefstyle of being in the business which even older individuals fell victim, let alone a young kid who was barely a teenager.

Sad story about this singer. Grew up in a rough part of Harlem. Came up from the Doo-Wop tradition, would sing with his friends on street corners and subways. Then he made it huge, until his voice did change and his fame was gone. Retreated back to Harlem in the early 1960s where heroin was everywhere. Became addicted and died super young. :-(

Yes, Frankie Lymon wrote the song back in (1956). The teenagers where a mix group of blacks and Puerto Ricans from Harlem. A movie was made about his life starring Halle Berry and Viveca Fox in 1998. When the 50's doo wop era was slowly fading and rock & roll music was changing. Frankie was left behind and became a shadow of himself. It ended very badly for him. You have to see the movie to better understand the tragic end to his life. Awesome reaction as always.

Everything u said is true , but Franke didn't wrote that song . 👉Herman Santiago (born February 18, 1941) is a Puerto Rican[1] rock and roll pioneer and songwriter who was previously a member of the vocal group Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers. He (disputedly) co-wrote the group's iconic hit "Why Do Fools Fall in Love".The following day the group was supposed to meet with Goldner in the studio for a recording session. Santiago had a sore throat and could not sing the lead vocal of the song he had written, "Why Do Fools Fall in Love," and therefore, gave Negroni the music sheet with the words to the song. Frankie Beverly ( from Maze "Before I let go") chose Frankie Lymon for his stage name because of the voices sounds so much alike. Watch the movie Why do fools fall in love with Larenz Tate, Halle Berry, Lela Rochon, and Vivica A Fox. Little Richard made a guest appearance, too.

In 1960, recording studios, radio stations were small, independent businesses. Anyone with a few bucks could record a demo record and go pitch it to the local radio station. If the storefront recording studio liked the song, they would call their professional acquaintances at the radio station and pitch it for you.

I began collecting records in 1956 when most records were released on 10" shellac (pre vinyl) discs that played at 78rpm. Frankie was very popular here in the UK and of the first 5 records that I was given by sympathetic "grown ups", 3 of them were by The Teenagers!! I still have them, treasure them and play them. Frankie's life was tragically short (dead of an overdose at 21) but it was certainly eventful. I have a DVD of the movie telling his life story and called, appropriately. "Why Do Dolls Fall In Love" released in 1998, it's a brilliant evocation of the times - Recommended! BTW, I caught the surviving Teenagers "Live" when they came to town about 20 years ago and they brought the house down. BTW2, the footage you were watching was the group's first Network TV appearance on "The Frankie Laine Show" and the rather poor sound is proof that they were actually performing live and not miming. BTW3. My personal Teenagers track is "Teenage Love" = Check it out!

This was from The Frankie Laine Show in the 1950's. They were at one point America's Biggest Boy Band but when Frankie's Voice changed and he left the Group and he wasn't as big as he had hoped to continue. He tried desperately for a comeback in the 1960's but with the exception of Hollywood A Go Go he never appeared on any other Show. Although he Co Wrote The Song he like alot of Black Artists even to this day got cheated out of Royalties. It was later covered by The Beach Boys & Diana Ross during her RCA Years. When she was starting out The Supremes first called them The Primettes and they wore Cheerleader Outfits with the Letter P on it. It was also featured in American Graffiti as well but try as he might he wasn't able to accept the fact that his career went down the drain. In February 1968 he died of a Heroin Overdose and The Jackson Five auditioned for Motown in 1968 and folks compared Michael to Frankie. He was a major influence on Smokey Robinson & Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1987 by Stevie Wonder along with Marvin Gaye, Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke and Smokey Robinson. A Couple of years later his former partners were also inducted. In 1987 in her Bestselling Book Rock Star Jackie Collins did a character loosely based on Frankie Lymon who was called Sweet Little Bobby who was a Popular Country & Western Singer. His Voice changed and he got dropped and he got cheated out of Royalties and at 16 he ended up getting a Job as a Men's Room Attendant and nobody knew who he was. He made a comeback but he was one of the lucky ones.
