Hi Shawn, I am 63 years old and I am back into golf after a 20-year layoff. I have rediscovered my interest in the game and love the learning aspect. A question if I may. I have adopted the Moe Norman club back from the ball at address for the driver, and it has helped me greatly with accuracy and improved length off the tee. A good drive for me is 260 -270 yards. I have been wanting to go higher on tee height as per your vid, but I don't see the pros doing it, or not from what I have seen anyway, and I thought there must be a good technical reason why they don't. After watching your vid I am going to make the move to a much higher tee height. Just wondering why the tournament pros dont seem to tee higher. Regards Tony (Cairns Australia)

Hey Tony! The game has changed a lot in 5 years on Tour; Tony Finau, Cameron Champ and all the longer guys tee the ball for accuracy as they hit it 300 plus easily. There are fewer and fewer doing it out there; but for the rest of us, and ALL THE LONG DRIVE COMPETITORS, these are the easy things we can do.

I only missed one fairway with the driver .went where I hit it launched high and was only a few yards behind him.. he is 45 and I’m 63.. I will try the higher tee. Next and see if this goes further.. I am definitely going to give this a shot. I have been using a medium tee height, but I would never get any roll out, in fact I would find my ball behind a pitch mark (backspin?)… I recently had a Trackman session and found that I have a back spin in the high 3,000’s - 4,000’s 🤦🏻♂️. Hope this helps. 🤞🏻

Hey Steve! You are either hitting it on the low side of the face and or hitting down on the ball; what is your angle of attack? it should be at a minimum of 3 degrees up to kill off spin.

Hey Shawn, with the T high and upfront of the lead toe is that a fade position only or can you hit a draw with a ball that far forward as well?
@golflessons Жыл бұрын
Hey Dexter! Don’t let the camera angle fool you too much here; the key is in the prediction process! When you allow momentum to track the arms and club and release you in the direction you want to start the ball, is the tip of tee in the right place to get clipped on the upswing by the centre of the sole of the club? if yes, we have the right ball position and distance to ball. There are a few more factors than the speed; the angle of attack is something than many struggle with; but if you have a good grasp of where the bottom of your swing arc is, and can deliver a nice upward angle of attack, sure! I certainly enjoy doing that! It opens up the options!

@golflessons Жыл бұрын
Several factors! The last 2 years for driver heads have been instrumental for lower spin and you must have a strong enough grip and a nice full release to not have the ball slide up the face.

To tee it high, you need to tee it forward to catch it on the upswing. But then, because you're forward, isn't it harder to hit a draw? How do you adjust to keep the draw?
@golflessons Жыл бұрын
Exactly why you needed to watch to the end as the last important tip was at minute 10 when we talked about the DIAGONAL STANCE that would allow you to maintain a proper platform under your lead side as you swing to the right of the intermediate point. On our premium channel, we have a complete series on the “DIAGONAL STANCE” that Ben Hogan and Moe Norman used to dominate their competition with the long clubs and driver; you also want to see “draw fine tuning” and “blur of club” as well as “arc blur unstoppable momentum series” to complement it! When the tee tumbles forward and the top hits the ground, it can easily go backwards; so no worries! Just stick with the task!

Hi Shawn. Another great video. Is the diagonal stance the same as a closed stance?
@golflessons Жыл бұрын
Similar; there is a specific balance of feet alignment vs ball position throughout the bag and the natural path of the swing plays a big factor in this: we have a specific “diagonal stance series” on our premium channel which is worth its weight in gold!
@rogerstanley7906 Жыл бұрын
Shawn, on those hi-tee drives you seem to be predominately using your arms in the swing rather than your body. Is this correct?
@golflessons Жыл бұрын
No way! Focus is on using the weight of the arc-club unit to make the tip of the tee tumble to the left of the IP in the direction I want the ball to start! When thinking this way, the kinetic chain of my anatomy engages the ground through the left ankle and leg and glut and pulls the body through with the existing momentum I built up with my huge turn and high arms and hands in the backswing. THE ARM TONE has to match the chain to get pulled through in the direction I want to start the ball and it makes it appear the way it does! Make more sense to what you see now?
@rogerstanley7906 Жыл бұрын
@@golflessons Thanks for your detailed reply, Shawn. Because of that particular video I have booked a 12 hole training session for tomorrow where I will work on implementing that action. Ball position to achieve "ball - grass - ground". With an 8 iron, my ball is just behind the centre of my feet. Why do some golfers feel the need to move the ball progressively further forward as they hit longer irons? The bottom of my swing I think is still the centre of my feet so why should the ball be forward of centre with my 4 iron?
@golflessons Жыл бұрын
Exactly! the only reason you would do that is if you wanted to hit a nice high fade! forward of centre is fade and back of centre is draw.
