@@eate2524 The stated plan is to replace fiat currency with digital currencies which every central bank is now working on developing, including Canada. Once in place and the switch is made, you will no longer have control of your money. Your spending will be dictated by government's Climate Change Zero Carbon policy. There are already credit cards being introduced that have limits on the amount of gas you can purchase with the card. It automatically declines once your purchase limit is met. Digital currencies will have similar locks and controls. You won't be able to set your own thermostat. It's not just fiat money we need to free ourselves from. Fewer distractions and electronic gadgets, less greed and materialism, more appreciation for nature and a solid community. I certainly can relate to you in terms of curiosity and self-teaching. I have too much formal education, including a law degree, but when you think about it formal education is really just being pointed in the right direction to teach yourself. Most distinguished professors are writers and not doers. And that's OK. We need those too. You are amazing to me because not only do you work hard but you are able to do so many different things. It is also correct that what you are doing today and in the past several years is the very best way to prepare for what is going on in the world. Average people have to depend on others. The survivors will be those who can do what it takes without outside help. My friends and close family always mention my knowledge of many subjects but that is not a 'gift' but an earned achievement. I read and study many subjects that I initially knew nothing about. Why? Curious, insatiable desire to 'Know'. Please carry on. You are 'teaching' as you work.

My vendors and I have spoke of the shortages and inflation. How it affects me in my job and them. I take that information and prepare more for our life with the family. We are not rich, but through that preparation we are doing pretty darn good. Hard work and education has been the key. When I retire in less than two years, we will be good. I have found ignorance of others have made their lives not so good, and they take their frustrations out on those of us who have sacrificed. I have blocked them from our lives. Armand Zottola: a few afterthoughts: as a retired economics professor. I would estimate that about two percent of the population has even minimal knowledge of formal economics. My barber explains inflation or poverty. Same with most . They haven’t a clue! Business experience in itself is hardly enough of a basis for analysis. It is not arrogance, just a simple truth. What you have done is laudable…admirable…successful…but far beyond the reach of most. My hero, Thomas Jefferson, wrote that “…all men are created equal”. In truth, one of three has a learning disability. Rational behavior among all is a serious flaw in free market theory. So we live …in a very imperfect world. Something to consider in a serious discussion. Shawn: stay your course. My admiration for you is boundless.

Since I first began watching your two channels Shawn I have always perceived the building of your off grid wilderness homestead as occurring within a much larger context; that larger context being self reliance to the fullest extent possible for yourself/family. There are many aspects to your pursuit of self reliance that you share. To me, your homestead is a significant “enabler” of the ultimate larger context of self reliance you have established for yourself as well as other aspects of self reliance such as building & expanding your knowledge base through self education, financial management early on - I feel it is important for viewers to recognize that there are many different degrees/types of self reliance depending on one’s abilities, life circumstances & motivation. We can each identify areas of our life where we want more self reliance to whatever extent one is able, & the list is long for areas of our life where we can choose to become self reliant. You Shawn have pursued & are moving towards self reliance on a large scale but that should not obscure the realization for those watching your channel that there are many ways one can enhance their lives by choosing areas of their life where one wants to become more self reliant & I feel that is communicated by you on your channel. A book that was empowering for me I first purchased for 50 cents at a student book sale back in my my 20s, over 50 years ago; Man’s Search For Meaning by Viktor E. Frankie; a Jewish psychiatrist. He first wrote the book in his head while interned in the worst of Jewish concentration camps during WWII digging trenches in sub zero temperatures in a thin shirt & shoes/socks with holes, with only diluted broth for food- he created one form of self reliance under the harshest & most abusive of conditions, a self reliance that enabled his survival. An extreme example granted, but to my point that some degree of self reliance is available to each of us, in one or more aspects of our lives. So speak on Shawn, many are inspired by what you share & a 👍 rating again & forever. Thank you.

Same age as you Tom and still need to do a wall, door and loft above a water tank ... I take so much time doing the simplest things now, good thing I lost close to 40 pounds this year. I never would be able to do the repairs and painting I am working on now. Shawn has ten GOOD years to be done and I am sure he will be secure long before that. I'll be watching for ideas and hints right along like now.He is inspirational.

Some time ago I wrote a somewhat unkind comment on you hunting and I am sorry for that as it is just not my business if you do that. For quite some time now I have wanted to express my great respect for you. I am touched by your mindfulness and the beauty of your soul. I hope this makes sense in english and does not sound inappropriate.

I too have a thirst for knowledge! My therapist tells me that I NEED to be learning at all times. Your channel is so educational and inspiring. You are living my dream, not my husbands, but mine. I am working towards an RV so I can travel the US and experience life first-hand.

While you were talking I was distracted by the beautiful sunrise that was peeking thru the trees & the rays were beaming just to your left. It was gorgeous! I love hearing you talk on this channel & explain some of the things we see on the other channel. And I'm so amazed at how hard you work no matter what the weather is like! You're an inspiration.

People are so weird. I love that you think it’s ranting. You are the calmest ranter ever. Good wishes to you and the family, Shawn. Thank you, as ever, for the education and inspiration.

I agree, diversity of opinions is important, as long as the discourse remain civil. People don't always have to agree, it simply have to be respected. It's always interesting to hear and understand someone point of you. Keep on going Shawn.

It's an honor, in my opinion, that you share both channels with us. I understand they are sources of income. However, the production quality, education, scenery, and character of the man are exemplary. I feel blessed to be part of Shawn James' community.

Anytime you share, whether it is self reliance, cooking, Cali, family, story telling, or any knowledge you have picked up as life’s lessons or what have you, I am thrilled! There is always the argumentative, entitled and critical spirit that is ready to devour. I enjoy what you share. I want to know the most I can know of my creator The Lord Jesus, therefore I study his word. Thats where wisdom is. Those who argue that fact have made a choice to turn away from the Lord. I fear him, and I love him, and there is no love or mercy, like him. So if I had a channel and spoke of him, and someone came along and tried to persecute or ridicule me for it, I would immediately know the spirit Im dealing with, and just like Jesus, you see and understand who you’re dealing with. You can’t have a relationship without meeting. I met Jesus! I didn’t turn away. So keep being you, Shawn, So many who love your channels speak kindly, and the rude ones are speaking from their critical spirit. “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” Matthew 6:21. 6:33-34. Have a blessed thanksgiving!

I'm glad you have a method of saying what you think, Shawn. Most of us do not-we're silenced by everyone (often with force) as soon as we voice our opinions. In the infrequent times when no one silences us, no one cares to listen.

I was lucky enough to get great financial advise as a young adult. The strategy was a long steady growth in mutual funds. The peaks are smaller but the drops are too. I was lucky enough to retire at 59 with good health.

In my opinion you are doing the right thing by talking to peeps. We all have to be aware of what is going on in this world and help eachother through the times coming upon us. Keep up the good work you are doing for yourself and the knowledge you bring to others.

I really prefer watching when you talk especially when you describe what you're doing, how you arrived at the decisions to do certain things and then carrying them out, its entertaining. Also, I'm interested in your other opinions about the environment, politics and the welfare of people. Don't worry about people hating, as you have so many subscribers you will get a certain percentage of people not liking everything, as you said, best thing to do is block them. Keep up the good work.

You are amazing! I have learnt a lot from watching you and listening to what you believe in..don't stop. My goal in three years is to go off grid in my tiny house I am building. I totally agree with you, it is time to take care of ourselves and not depend on others to take care of us and that involves a great deal of hard work, something a lot of people these days seem to be afraid. Continue on your journey, I'll be watching and thank you.

I've found though the years that those who are afraid to take chances in life to better themselves and those around them are the negative individuals. Your right Shawn , if your not making mistakes in life , your not learning . IN EVERY NEGATIVE THING WE FACE IN LIFE , THERE IS ATLEAST ONE POSITIVE THING WE CAN FIND USEFUL. We all make mistakes. Some worse than others. I've made great mistakes in life but used those mistakes as building blocks for a richer , more fulfilling life. I believe in surrounding yourself with Great People . People who have something worthwhile to teach and learn from. People who will make your life richer. Kinda like...Show me your friends and I'll show you your future. Thanks Hoss I've rambled enough. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Shawn: You are much more polite than I am. The rude and obnoxious people who comment are such a small part of your subscriber base that I would simply ignore and block. They aren’t worth your time. Keep doing what YOU want to do. There are a lot of people who are touched by your words and actions.

I love the fact you mentioned you were blocking people making rude and uneducated comments. Well done! It's one of the VERY few strategies to control what gets said online. I applaud you for doing it and I also applaud you for telling your subscribers you're doing it. Anyone who has been a long time fan of this channel truly respects you as a man, a father, a husband, and a friend. Please keep doing "you" !!

Love the progress and also the caring and insightful core community you’ve built over the years. Here in South Africa, a group of friends follow and read many comments and learn so much. Ignore the negative types mostly, I’d say. If you can’t give your feedback in a way that we can all learn, bugger off and leave us all in peace. Hard enough that the man is building this homestead - note: not just a small cabin in the woods, but a family supporting, year round homestead - on his own. Love your work, Shawn.

Been one of your subscribers since self reliance started. There's nothing I would change, 'except your loud neighbor next to the other cabin'. But, in hindsight it's been a blessing. I get to watch you build a new cabin, and I've noticed that your doing somethings different, probably you wished you put a bigger food cellar in the last cabin. Love everything your doing. I even like the music in the beginning. The music means I can leave my life for a bit, and watch you do what most people dream of doing; including me...build a simple life in the middle of the woods.
