Join Joe Robinet and me as we paddle through Woodland Caribou Provincial Park in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. We fish for lake trout, walleye and northern pike and I cook them 9 different ways.
Thanks to Red Lake Outfitters for providing us with an awesome experience in the boreal forest of northern Canada.
We fly in and out of the park on two DeHavilland Beaver float planes, paddle through extensive forest fire burns, get pounded by high winds and thunderstorms and encounter many bears and moose.
Thanks also to Ursack, Tilley Endurables, Virtus Knives, Frost River packs and Northstar Canoes for providing equipment and to the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation and the City of Thunder Bay for their financial support.
Royd Lake, Constellation Lake, Poodle Lake, Murdoch Lake, Knox Lake, Linge Lake, Young Lake and Olive Lake.

My Self Reliance ,,, at 2:48 there is a bird singing. I always think of Ontario when I hear that bird call. I live near San Diego and since about 2012 , in the spring, there are a couple of those birds in this area. They are far far from home and probably got blown in here by some storm. Or, so I have been told. I could sit and listen to that call for hours... brings back good memories. Thanks for your channel!

Love the video! One thing though... you REALLY shouldn't use non-stick pans over direct fire, the coating becomes fairly unstable when exposed to extreme heat like that and you can tell the coating is failed on your pan and is starting to chip off. This coating is not safe when ingested, and you should really use another type of pan... Just trying to help, I selfishly want you to be making videos for a long long time...
@MySelfReliance
@MySelfReliance 7 жыл бұрын
timmyd24601 haha, I agree. I hate that pan and got rid of it after the trip. I'll man up and bring the cast iron next time because I also strongly dislike my titanium pans
@JKellyNolanBioguide
@JKellyNolanBioguide 7 жыл бұрын
Leave the cast iron at home and save some weight as you might still find and like a "cold handle" carbon steel frying pan. I see there are a few companies making them for home use now. Once seasoned properly they are great nonstick frying pans and perfect over the open fire or wood stove while winter camping.
@MichealBacon
@MichealBacon 6 жыл бұрын
@My Self Reliance - i wont lie to you, i thought for sure you'd have a few steel Cold Handled or Frontier pans to choose from. At the very least pick up a good stainless pan from the same guy you likely were inspired by - Dave Canterbury of Self Reliance Outfitters. He offers a solid stainless pan with lid for cheap.

How did the Northstar Polaris fare in the rough conditions? I met Bear Paulsen at the Midwest Mountaineering Outdoor Adventure Expo in Minneapolis a few months ago and he invited me to take a tour of Northstar Canoes in Princeton, Minnesota...about 20 miles away from my place! kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6Pbp3h9fMtrrKM Spent a few minutes with Ted Bell, too...that man is intensely serious about canoes! Shawn are there herbs, and edible plants which are native to your owned lands that you can plant, and or encourage to grow close by? Seems as long as you didn't introduce anything harmful to the environment you'd be making your cabin more viable. Of course I'm aware of the different weather there makes for a short growing season. Anyways the cook video triggered the idea. Thanks for the beauty you share. I doubt I need tell you to keep up the good work. Be well,
