My dad was a professional musician....a drummer. He played for people like Tony Orlando, Burt Bacharach, Englebert Humperdinck and Paul Anka. Although he and I had SOME "pop" music in common, we were pretty far apart when it came to music. I was into Kiss and Led Zepplin, and he was into Chick Corea and the Brecker Brothers. One day, I was listening to an Album in my room (Spring Session M) and he knocked on the door. He stood and listened to the rest of the album with me. When it was over, he asked who the drummer was and we spent a couple of minutes pouring over the album cover. He was thoroughly impressed by Terry Bozzio (for good reason) and was actually into "MY" music. It's funny how music can bring people together like that.

If I was going to put an example of 80s new wave senth pop in a time capsule - I'd put this video inside.

Singer - Dale Bozzio. Prog-God Drummer, Terry Bozzio, played in Frank Zappa's 70's Band, late 70's UK second Album, and late 80's Jeff Beck Band. (I saw Terry Drum for Jeff's Guitar Shop Tour.)

I saw them at Magic Mountain Valencia CA in 81? It was supposed to be 1 free concert for 5,000 but 20,000 showed up. I got to hear a whole concert in line before they performed for us.

It wasn’t a hard transition to get on board with Missing Persons at all. Saw them live before they broke out. Dale and Terry were moving the needle towards techno pop with unique ideas and talent. US Festival performance was great…

New Wave at its best in 1981. Dale Bozzio the vocalist also worked with Frank Zappa. I got into them and I came from the 70s rock and progressive rock. At this time I was also into The Police, The Talking Heads, The Cars, Devo as well as still into rock. This is a live version the album version is cleaner with the vocals. Mental Hopscotch is my favorite of theirs.

In the 1980's having Ronald Wilson Ray-Gun as "President", was a big SUCK. Fortunately, the music scene was pretty cool, lots of different styles and genres, lots of variety. Dale Bozio, her name is Dale, like Racecar Driver Dale Earnhardt, but she is most definitely a woman, and she has the quirkiest vocals of anyone I've ever heard. Wonder if she can still reach those squeaky high notes, it would be interesting to find out.
