Man I love this series. He's so spot on with this story. 2012 to 2013 was the highest number of "green on blues". Screening the partner forces was a nightmare. A guy could go home and come back radicalized, been placed there by the enemy or you could've just offended him for whatever reason. Every key leader engagement was dicey. You really had to be careful and keep your head on a swivel.
@siuflsr Жыл бұрын
We had 4 of these in 12 months 2012-2013. I got home and end of tour and the fourth one happened. I did the death notify as I was close by. Tough year, lots went down from our “ partners” that deployment

I gotta say the title is a bit misleading. That gun fight was not intense, that was INSANITY. I could not imagine being in a situation where “partner forces” get the drop on you like that. Hearing Nick talk about what happened was tough for me. Dude is a warrior for surviving that, not to mention saving someone else’s ass in the process.

This is why I could never want to be a green beret. To put you trust and your life as well as the men my brothers on the team. We put all that trust in locals and indigenous people. Is too spooky for me. This bring prime example. Granted many of them wouldn't turn on you but the thought that they can easily hide other motives and blend in would always be in my mind. Just not the job for me. I'd rather trust eyes in the sky and my brothers on the ground with me

@flyoverkid55 Жыл бұрын
This is a lesson that has to be re-learned in every conflict. In that American forces fight in someone else's backyard, there will always be locals working with or for the indigenous friendly forces that are in fact not friendly. This has been the case since at least the Korean conflict, and will always be so. When we work in conjunction with indigenous forces, it's a given that some of them have ulterior motives. If ever there was a case for raining down total destruction of a nation and it's populace, Afghanistan is it.

Indigenous? Just say afghan. Thanks for categorizing indigenous people as violent.
@w4pher Жыл бұрын
You're sounding very ethnocentric. Indigenous peoples covers the various tribes of people within Afghanistan. Afghans don't really regard themselves as Afghans that was the west that put those borders there. They are more like Pashtun, Tajik, Hazara, Uzbek, Aimaq, Turkmen, Baloch, Pashai, Nuristani, Kurds, Gujjar, Arab, Brahui, Qizilbash, Pamiri, Kyrgyz, Sadat and others. All speaking different languages.

Nick said, ‘I’m trained to eliminate the threat.’ If that was the case, then why did he choose to take his rage out on an unarmed man who was also on the same team? That doesn’t make any sense. Every wrong option that could have been made that day was made by nick. I wouldn’t say that he’s a coward, but he’s most definitely not a hero.
