@wargent99 .....the reason you listed is THE SOLE REASON Stalin created Gulags.... yall capitalist pig fuckers dont like that fact tho. Kulaks hoarding/destroying grain (because they werent getting what they had been used to in the time in which they normalized robbing the every day laymen) got sent to find out what a life of work without unions and without proper compensation was like, just as they had implemented on countless other workingmen. If you blame the starvation of the soviet people on Stalin you are just straight up uneducated.

@wargent99 BAHAHAHAHA did u get that from "the victims of communism" propaganda page or from your CIA agent of a father? @wargent99 Is op from a work of fiction or a memoir? Definitely had a 'Darkness at Noon' vibe, but perhaps the guy arguing with you is more well-read than I am, he went instantly to Stalin and the gulags. Labor camps and aversions to capitalism existed all over the world in the 20th century, so wasn't sure myself.

Why in our colleges are we taught to have a visceral loathing for our own National Anthem, and to seethe with rage whenever we hear it played? The reason in my opinion is that those "bent" professors responsible, represent a "fifth column" in America, whose sworn purpose is to corrupt and destroy our youth, in favor of socialism, over our own form of government that has served us very well in the past, in the long run. I'm not saying that it's a perfect world, but it's the best that we have right now, and will remain so unless proud, greedy and unscrupulous opportunists who espouse Marxist principles, ever get the upper hand and start implementing new policies and passing strange draconian laws. I was somewhat enthralled by the spirit of that music too I'll admit, but, lest we forget, innocent millions have needlessly died or perished in obscurity; these poor human lives (who had just as much right to live as you or me), squashed like so many grapes, under the undying cruelty of that heartless and ruthless regime; the heavy hand of the tyrant was everywhere; in the Lubyanka, the gulags, and the frozen wastelands of Siberia, where gold is mined near the Artic Circle and the lead mines of yakutzia, where so many have died of starvation and freezing. Lest, we forget! If we're not watchful and vigilant, IT CAN HAPPEN HERE!

It was the shining light of humanity. The first country where the working class successfully liberated themselves, and a country that has stood with liberation movements all around the world. Losing the Soviet Union was the greatest loss humanity has experienced, and the greatest setback in human progress. But we picked up the torch, and we keep carrying it, in Cuba, Vietnam, Laos, China, the DPRK, in Bolivia and Venezuela, in Nicaragua, and in every other country where workers stand up and fight for their liberation.

Unbreakable Union of freeborn Republics, Great Russia has welded forever to stand. Created in struggle by will of the people, United and mighty, our Soviet land! Sing to the Motherland, home of the free, Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong. O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people, To Communism's triumph lead us on! Through tempests the sunrays of freedom have cheered us, Along the new path where great Lenin did lead. To a righteous cause he raised up the peoples, Inspired them to labour and valourous deed. Sing to the Motherland, home of the free, Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong. O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people, To Communism's triumph lead us on! In the victory of Communism's immortal ideal, We see the future of our dear land. And to her fluttering scarlet banner, Selflessly true we always shall stand! As anthems go, nothing comes even close to it. Most anthems kind of suck: boring, pompous, obsolete, unwieldy pieces of music. Alexandrov's masterpiece is a genius of balance: It's majestic yet simple enough to be sung by school children, peaceful yet powerful, stirring and calming in equal measure, not overtly militaristic, but indeed subtly menacing, not overtly ethnic or "folk" but does channel "we the people"... In short it's timeless.

About eastern bloc supression , ask simple people about those era and they say it was best time of their life. I m not talking about huge propaganda in books or in movies even nowadays, western world knows about USSSR and Stalin only because of it. Not best the source of information.

@@afuks9693 I know quiet a few people from the former USSR who would beg to differ - I heard their stories before reading the Gulag Archipelago, and a few hundred pages into it... it's all eerily similar, it was a collective lived horror and is glorified by our university system to impressionable young minds. I'm just lucky my calculus professor defected - he was a guard at a "work camp" in Siberia.

@@nemodaremo9524 Labvakar! Politics and music... well, you and I may agree that there's nothing political about good music, but you and I can't deny that certain political systems have abused good music to push their politics. As for stopping others from appreciating the music... Think about "Deutschland über Alles". A romantic composition by Joseph Hayden (1732-1809). But later on it was abused by Hitler's nazi regime to push German supremacy over the "inferior" nations. Can you blame the victims of the holocaust for having certain feelings about Hayden's composition? And can you blame the victims of the Gulags for having certain feelings about "Союз нерушимый"?

There were no Soviet prisoners. They had to be killed in accordance with Germany's OST Plan. Maybe there were any but they were treated as if they were Jews. Only french, British and American soldiers were treated as prisoners of war. They had food three times a day and free time to kill inside the territory of a camp.
