Anybody who says the Prophet married a child is close to being an enemy to the Prophet.

Thank you Mufti. For those who say that it was a "cultural practice", they should know that there is no other example anywhere of someone during the Prophet's time, before it, and for many decades after his death, of anyone marrying a 6 year old girl and consummating with a her at 9. And one incident I am aware of was met with some scandal. Two further points to add to what Mufti says, points that I haven't seen in other treatments of this issue; - *The prophet's own daughters* were all married well into their teens (around 16). If all fathers/guardians would only follow THAT "sunnah", then this would never be practical issue in the world today (as it is in some places like Yemen). It would be relegated to pure to history. - The *small scandal* that surrounded the *second Caliph when he asked to marry Umm Kulthum* , the daughter of Ali bin Abu Talib and Fatimah al-Zahra. Ali is said to have first refused. Why? Because Umm Kulthum was "too young" .... they say around 11 years old at the time. Umar himself was over 60. Yet despite her age being older than Aisha's supposed age of marriage, no one used the "sunnah" of the Prophet marrying at 6 and consummating at 9 as support for the marriage: Neither Umar himself, nor Ali, nor the people who gossiped about it ... not even Aisha herself who was alive and well at the time. This shows that it was not culturally acceptable for a girl to be married at such a young age, 11 ... let alone 6! And had the Prophet really married Aisha at an even younger age, 1) Umar's marriage would not have been an issue and someone would have mentioned "the sunnah", and 2) the Prophet's enemies and detractors would have used it against him in a worse way than the way people were just gossiping at Umar wanting to marry an 11 year old. As I said, I'm very disappointed in Omar Suleiman and the Yaqeen Institute.

If they're going to declare everything in Buhkari as authentic then they have to defend it. As the Mufti has said before, Sunni Islam has been hijacked by Shafi'ism. You can blame the Saudi Salafis all you want, but the reality is that they've been more critical of hadeeth than the mainstream Shafi'is and crypto-Shafi'is (mainly because some of what's in the text clashes with their hyper anti-bidah/shirk agenda.)
