That BMW R18 is probably the last bike I would have thought you would try. I love the Art Deco vibe and the massive engine. My old BMW looks like it's from the 1970s because it was made in the 1990s! Love bikes that manufacturers don't change much over the years. My '86 Kawi ZG1000 Concours is a shining example. 20yrs before a major change. Says a lot. My '05 Dyna though...sigh...Dear Harley...bring it back!

Totally agree. I had a Guzzi California III carb model back in the day I couldn’t afford a Harley. I also had an old Ducati 900 SD Darmah, with the bevel gear driven (not belts) valves. I agree, having gone on to owning a 2004 Dyna Wide Glide and a 2005 1200 Sportster, the Moto Guzzi is the Italian Harley. Beautiful and simple engineering.

Moto Guzzi is such a frankenstein motorcycle, 90-degree transverse V-twin engine, dry clutch, and shaft driven. Its like a mad scientist combined the DNA of a harley, ducati and bmw to make a moto guzzi.

I miss my old F650 funduro. I changed out the tires and made it kind of supermoto, but it was 40hp (at best) of single cylinder fury. Not really, it topped out at 100 and had very little power at 70 on the highway. It was smooth as a sewing machine and ok at the off-road dual sport stuff, I was just using it as a commuter and not for its intended purpose. I’d be very interested to see what a pure designed street BMW would be like to ride.

If I had to chose I'd take the BMW. I prefer German reliability over Italian power. I also like the styling of the R 18. It looks like it stepped right out of Batman: The Animated Series.

You and I had almost the same EXACT reaction to the R18. I LOVED LOVE LOVED the opposing cylinders feel of it at idle and it had GREAT acceleration...to me though, it did feel a bit cramped and I know you are taller than me (I am 6ft). My dang battery died on my GoPro so I only got like 7 minutes of recording time. They had the R18 Demo Day at our dealership a few weeks ago. I cant wait to see the bobber edition though, as thats what the pre-production one was and it looked SWEET!! I loved the bar drive shaft on it also!!!

The BMW R18 is a Homage to the BMW R5 from 1936. It is build in the tradition of the 180°Boxer R Modells.BMW CEO doesn´t sweat ... :)

The BMW R-18 with 27" seat Heaight is a good bike for the Verticlaly Challenged... It's Not a Paralell Twin like @shadetree surgeon said .. My Yamaya FZ-07 is a Paralell Twin a Triumph T-120 is a Paralell Twin the BSA is a Paralell Twin the Yamaha XS-650 is a Paralell Twin .. The BMW R-18 is a Boxer or a 180 degree opposed twin.. They say a 6 cylinder Boxer like a Corvair or Subaru needs no counter blanace weights on the crank shaft.. they always sound so smooth .. Nothing purrs nicer than a Corvair or a boxer Porcha ..

The BMW R-18 is very comparable to the HD Slim in dimension and engine size. The biggest difference is the mid-controls on the R-18. Check the specs. Being short isn't a challenge, its a dare.

The BMW isn't a parallel twin, it's actually a horizontally opposed twin, a Triumph Bonneville is a parallel twin because the cylinders are parallel to each other, i.e. side by side to one another.
