What are you talking about? We are "obsessed" with figuring out what's causing these ladies' damage to occur with their process and methods AROUND these curly cuts. It's very difficult seeing as how nearly all of the stylists are ignoring, dismissing, and gaslighting the concerns instead of taking them seriously. If you aren't interested in that then find something else to watch, but trying to discourage us is only creating noise and making it difficult to actually figuring out HOW TO MAKE CURLY CUT STYLING WORK FOR EVERYONE. It’s because the maths ain’t mathing. What’s the point of going to a professional regularly, paying $200/ $300 per appointment if my hair is going to be destroyed by the end of of the year? They (curly cut specialists) came to *us* telling *us* we were taking care of our hair improperly just to end up with worst hair under their guidance. As a professional isn’t it their job to spot that my hair is damaged and I’m doing something wrong therefore help correct the issue? So we’re supposed to just give them our money and shut up?? @@thingsilove18do you have any recommendations for good gels?
@creamycazz111 ай бұрын
@@thingsilove18Just my two cents but I don’t think this works if you’re sitting under a dryer. Especially if using a gel with a humectants.. sitting under the dryer makes your hair that much drier in the long run. Now idk if the lady shown here did that but I do think that’s part of the issue w/ those who are experiencing dryness & splits (aside from the curly cuts).
@thingsilove1811 ай бұрын
@@creamycazz1 I noticed that too so I opted for a diffuser. I found that with a hooded dryer, you tend to sit under it longer than necessary. Opposed to a diffuser I know immediately when my hair is dry so I stop. Shampoo opens the cuticles and allow water in, conditioner comes and seals the cuticles shut. Then these gels that contain film forming humectants are meant to hold water in the air and form a film to keep the water in for as long as possible. So if you are over drying the hair under a hooded dryer that water is leaving faster than it should so days later your hair is dry. Though, humectants are meant to pull water into the hair during the week, but that might be a problem in of itself because I hear that the cuticles constantly opening and closing (swelling with water and drying) can also be damaging to the hairs cuticles but I'm still learning more about that. @maryc3102 check out Brittany Mia and What The Kink on here. They test out different products. See what might work for you based on how it works on their hair.

@AfrikanHairGod11 ай бұрын
I honestly think it's less to do with her curls and more to do with her just having the genetic disposition and type of hair that you don't encounter that often that is extremely strong and resistant to damage. I've only seen one other person like this. She used to flat iron her hair all the time with excessive heat and though her curls would loosen, her hair had no breakage, thinning, or splits. So yeah i think she might be the exception to the rule but it's all up in the air right now. I don't want to rule out anything just yet but I'm going to continue to investigate this and try to determine any common denominators with any others that i see. The next time that i have a client like this, I'm gonna record the consultation so that we can get full context of their hair

I wonder what her drying practice is? Hooded dryer? What temp? For how long? How often is she cleansing? With what level of shampoo? Is she using any treatments -Olaplex, K18, etc? How long has she been wearing WNG? How many curly cuts? Does she mid week wash or co-wash & what shampoo? Does she use mousse/foam? I think these types of questions may help dig deeper to determine similarities and differences. Also the fact that she has a much looser curl may definitely contribute to the difference in what her hair requires vs a tight curl. Thanks for sharing.

She only started using deep conditioners and leave ins a month ago. She always used a hooded dryer on high heat because her hair literally holds on to water and takes a very long time to dry. Even blowing out her hair was a lot of heat to fully dry it. She used just shampoo, conditioner, and 2 gels once a week. She's basically been doing what everyone else been doing
@Vfd27011 ай бұрын
@@AfrikanHairGodwhat specific shampoo? A stronger shampoo like AG Balance? Or a more moisturizing shampoo like Innersense Hair Bath? The type of shampoo plays a role in dryness. Many who’ve followed the method for a longer time may have used AG Balance with each wash prior to understanding that it’s too strong for weekly use - thus contributing to dryness. The dryer use & frequency also contributes to dryness. Did she only cleanse 1 x a week? So she was drying on high heat for 1 hour or more? If she mentioned there seems to be a moisture improvement after 1 month of deep conditioning & leave ins that seems like she may have introduced them prior to damage setting in. Glad she prevented it. How long had she followed the method? How many curly cuts? Issues seem to set in after 1 or more years.

As a hair stylist I would say that every method has pros and cons. A curly cut done right is fine for people that always wear their hair curly. (Think about it men get their hair cut in it’s natural state all the time.) Will it be perfectly even and symmetrical when blow out and straight? Maybe/maybe not, but it will look right and can be just as healthy if cared for properly. If you go back and forth then cut it straight and regardless of how you do wear it get it cut straight at least 2 a year. Just my thoughts and opinions. But I do respect peoples reasonings for doing things differently.
@AfrikanHairGod11 ай бұрын
That's not the issue that's being examined at all. Everyone that is experiencing issues with their cut wore it curly 90% of the time. We aren't addressing uneven ends we are addressing "damaged" ends. We have since ruled out the curly cut itself being the issue. It's the hair care practice that some are taking with the curly cuts. Men get their hair trimmed and cut with a barber but their hair isn't getting damaged from it. They aren't getting split ends and thinning from getting hair cuts. I would implore you to examine the issue with curly cuts more as it relates to the hair care methodology since you are a hairstylist. It would be insightful to giving you a broader perspective on addressing hair issues and identifying the causes when you encounter it.
@jaythethinker399411 ай бұрын
@@AfrikanHairGod If the issue is with care then it would go back to the many different factors of why some women are experiencing damage. That can be a multitude of factors, medication, hormonal imbalances, pregnancy, wrong products, to much product etc etc. Have you found in your clients with curl cuts any specific curly cut methods that are experiencing more damage or any products? Just curious because I do want to do some more research into it.
@AfrikanHairGod11 ай бұрын
@jaythethinker3994 they generally use the same products and process. The damage is the same though. Split ends throughout at least half of their length and dry hair. The stylists they are going to are not addressing their hair damage or dryness. So this is a systematic issue that needs to be addressed with how stylists are assessing and maintaining their clients hair. However the biggest hindrance is that the stylists are not open to sitting down and figuring out where the problem lies and how to best fix it

@@TAMIKKOBEASTY your perspective doesn't really matter since you aren't even woman enough to say it. You comment in MY comment section and you feel like i can't respond back? So you aren't just timid but also irrational...

Did she happen to mention what products she is using ?
@AfrikanHairGod11 ай бұрын
I don't specifically remember but she did say that she just shampooed conditioned and used 2 different types of gels. But no leave in or oil based products. The products themselves didn't seem moisturizing to her though from what i remember

@@AfrikanHairGodThis makes sense to me but I’d never do it long-term though this is my version of a very quick wash and go but I will usually “lock it” with an oil-butter mixture after it’s all done being sticky and has dried. I just shampoo, deep condition, skip leave in because I’m probably tired and hungry, rake kinky curly custard through my hair and then follow up with Blueberry bliss curl control gel/jelly - I am high porosity, frizzy type though and can take a lot of gels and proteins in my hair.

I have a question. You seem to be one of the few objective people within the industry at this time. What are your thoughts on the practices of some stylist who treat their clients like criminals? How are Black stylists getting away with open discriminatory practices? In some instances they not only want a deposit. Some of them insist that you send a photo of your license, piece of mail with your name on it post dated no more than 10 calendar days, and so on. If a non Black stylist did this with a Black client, there would be litigation. No question. I can’t describe how infuriating it is when I encounter this behavior. I worked tremendously hard for 24 years to be where I am professionally. It’s insulting that someone feels comfortable discriminating because they’re Black and I’m Black. Black on Black it’s still discriminatory. Thoughts?

@@AfrikanHairGod I’m aware, and I’m saying two wrongs don’t make a right. It’s just been so dragged out. I understand a couple videos, but to drag this for so long is not a good look.

So it depends on an individuals hair needs. Some people need leave ins, deep conditioners, oils and butters and some don’t.

Transition her to hair lotion immediately. No need to put on gel after the wash n go’s a light oil and a curly hair lotion will work wonders
