Generally, they have to buy out whatever equity is there and take over the mortgage payments. It's rare for a woman to receive a fully paid for home and to retain all the value of the home. She will have to forgo something else of value to get it usually. Like a share of 401k or investments.

What I can say is that different people have different strengths and weaknesses, and different people have different priorities for relationships. Her husband might be a great guy and responsible in all other ways except in financial responsibility. She is financially stable enough that even if that bothers her, it's not necessarily a dealbreaker for their relationship. Since she owns the home, she has little reason to keep him around unless he is great in other ways. So, he may be doing his share of the cooking and cleaning, pay all or part of the bills, and most especially he may be an amazing dad to their kids. If he also spends too much on hobbies, vacations, or what-not, then maybe it's more forgivable in that context.

Some women actually buy their own homes. Some women get divorced, lose everything, rebuild alone, and then STILL buy their own home. You can only get alimony if you married a man who earned more than you and you weren't a cheater/abuser, otherwise, as the breadwinner, the woman may be on the hook to pay her ex-husband! SOME women refuse alimony and/or child support to have as little to do with their former spouse as possible... and then STILL buy a house on their own. A divorced women's ex-husband will ensnare another victim, have dual incomes, and still not buy a home while having more financial flexibility to do so.... As a never been married single woman, I own my home. Also, some of my other never been married single female friends own theirs. That said, most of the single men I know, even many of the successful ones, don’t own their homes. She has a point. I don’t know why these men are so angry. They can go buy their own houses too. Don’t get upset because women decided to work hard and make their own money to avoid the pressure of staying in a bad relationship to gain financial support from the man. Also, what the hell is that guy talking about his taxes supplementing women? We all pay equal amounts of taxes. Single people pay more taxes than single parents or married people regardless of gender. The more money we make, the more our tax bracket increases, and the more money we have to pay. Single men are statistically more likely to pay less taxes than single women because they have more write-offs than single women; I feel this tax pain each year.

We also want to have the security of an appreciating asset. Most women I know are not getting houses due to divorce. Men don’t buy houses by themselves because they’re waiting for a partner. Ever since the “no fault” divorce, it’s split 50/50. No women I know ever got the house 😂 The house is sold, bills paid, and any profits are split. Men don’t know how to manage money whatsoever.
