@greycat7885 I just did! God bless you both! PS...ex nurse here (age 77) I sincerely hope she has a better outcome than my mom did 38 yrs ago! Knowledge has grown exponentially since I was a young nsg student! Now I drive folks to medical appts in a gov't assisted program. Someday, I might go to 5 or 6 cities ...400-450 mi from my home. I talk w. many in your mom's situation. They're scared and in need of kindness or a prayer. If your mum needs rides to a major city...for her medical appts, Call her doc to see if she qualifies (lo-income). If so then hopefully, it'll take a 2-3 wk wait to get your pass activated. Call local transport Co. They can probably hook you up! Many do not know abt these programs and transport to lg cities miles away, where the best doc's are seems impossible! One guy I got to know real well has been going for appts sometimes 3-4 times a wk for the last 5 yrs. He's still with us ...we're in contact! I will continue to pray for you & your mum! God bless!

My beautiful mum worked in a nursing home for many years, she was 40 weeks pregnant with me scrubbing floors, & took me with her just as I started toddling. The elderly residents absolutely adored me, mum said it was the highlight of her day taking me in & seeing their faces go from being so gloomy, to big smiles from ear to ear, the more able bodied sitting me on their knee singing to me. I’m 36 now & have tiny snippets of memories from then. What people don’t realise about nursing homes here in the UK is.. many families place their elderly relatives in the home & never ever visit, essentially ‘dumping’ them until their final days, & even then it’s often a carer who sits with them through the night / day so they aren’t alone when they pass. That’s why strong bonds are often made between carers & the residents x

I bet this felt like her own grandchild telling her she beat cancer. Sometimes these older ladies and gents don’t have many or any visitors. They’re kinda just left behind. So when the nurses care for them enough to share their life with them they become family. It’s so sweet to see.❤

I plan to volunteer at a nursing home. The elderly have some amazing stories to tell! When my husband’ I would visit his great grandfather, I would see some of the other elderly sitting on their wheelchairs, some of them with hope & sadness🥺in their eyes. I imagine they were hoping a loved one visit😞. Please don’t forget our elders living in nursing homes. They were there for you when you were a child so please return the favor by visiting, talk to them, hold their hands ask them how they are doing, It doesn’t take long to visit & it will make their day🤗

Currently volunteering at a nursing home. Make sure you prepare yourself by doing plenty of research about dementia especially! There are unfortunately a lot of things about the disease that many do not realise. It can change how a person behaves, make them do things out of character. They can become abusive and even violent. Always remember that they cannot help it. Protect yourself emotionally by training yourself to take none of it personally. It is noble work and very important, but don’t expect every single older person in care to be able to have wholesome conversations with you or anything like that. There will always be those who will teach you so much and pass their wisdom and goodness on to you. And they emotionally strengthen you to deal with the times when there is no wisdom, only very human suffering and emotions. ❤️ Every elderly person deserves care regardless.

Be careful! Not all elderly people are kind or nice. In fact, a lot aren’t. I don’t know where the misconception that just because someone is very old they’re “wise” or “kind”.
