I've watched this video twice. I live in the US. I'm old enough to remember the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1992. I was 30 at the time. I wondered at that time what happened to the people in the satellite republics when several civil wars broke out. Now I know thanks to you. I never remember hearing any of this in American mainstream media at that time...which was pre-internet and mostly just the major television networks here. What a tragedy for these people! It wasn't just the people in the Republics who suffered. Everybody suffered. No jobs, no money, and what money there was was hoovered up by the criminal classes, or 'oligarchs' as they are euphemistically called. Workers were given shares in the factories that they had worked in, and then they were forced through circumstance to sell them for a pittance to the oligarchs, who took over the factories and syphoned the wealth into their own pockets. It was capitalism at its most raw.

@@nowadayswithandy yea, America (and other western countries) might not be utopian, but it truly is the best place to live... do you not think for a second that any of these people wouldn't love to have a chance here in the US? It is by far the most free country on the planet, whether you decide to work for a good life or even just freeload in the streets. You have exponentially more choice in life than anywhere else. Freedom to do, or not to do pretty much anything a normal human would want. Many of these people work hard for essentially nothing. In America, their same work ethnic and persistence to survive would afford them a far better life. It's really quite annoying when Americans think they're so oppressed.

There is corruption and poverty now, he sees it, he points it out, and of course he will blame politicians for it, who else is there to blame, who else runs the place? He speaks of the old soviet union while from the perspective of the old people who once had a decent life when it existed.
