She-Hulk is the Worst the MCU Has to Offer (I hope)

Hot take: She-Hulk is a bad. It's the MCU at its absolute worst - and we can only hope that it can't get any worse than this. My bet is that She Hulk will be the first Disney+ Marvel show to get the axe.

How is it even possible to be 4 episodes into a show and for there to be no longterm conflict? Just so we're clear, conflict doesn't necessarily have to be a literal conflict (ie "the world is in danger, again"). It can be a personal conflict, ie learning to accept a new phase of life. But any chance of them even doing that is already gone considering she already found her balance between Jenn/She Hulk in literally the first episode.

There are so many episodic shows like that. That doesn’t necessarily make it bad. Look at the office, Simpsons, friends, etc.

@@EsEN101 Maybe the Simpsons, but the Office absolutely had longterm conflicts, both literal conflicts (ie DM going bankrupt) and personal conflicts among characters (ie Jim and Pam's relationship). She Hulk had NONE of that.

I liked Loki better. Moon Knight was fine but it feels like "good" or phase 4 would have been among the worst of the first 3 phases

I'm a fan of this show and your content, so I was a bit bummed to see the title of this video. But, I watched it and I can definitely see where you are coming from. I thought She Hulk, the show, provided an interesting motivation for our protagonist to turn into She Hulk (the legal system punishing her for saving the jury - that was interesting) and I figured the blatant mysoginy was a reflection of the reality of what women have to deal with today. Yes, it is overt and yes it could be handled with more subtletly but it happens to this day to women every day in this way, shape, and form. That being said, I never considered the fact the show doesn't trust the audience enough to "show" instead of "telling." I'd be curious to know what feminists, female-centered shows/movies you think tackle the themes She Hulk tries to do in a better way? Are there examples of other stories that do it better? This video is the most convincing one I've seen at laying out the show's flaws but the majority of the criticism I've seen online just seems to boil down to the sexist comments the show highlights (like, "why cant it be Hulk's show" "this is too woke" or "twerking = bad"). Are there examples of other stories out there that approach this conversation better? I thought the show did a better job than Cpt. Marvel.

I think The Boys is a perfect example of how to deal with these issues in a funny yet grounded way. They also repeatedly show Marvel how to create strong female characters without pandering. Tbf it's hard to comment on these nuanced issues in a PG sitcom format. But it's not like She-Hulk is doing anything new. It's all been done a million times before, which is why it turns me off so much. It would be one thing if this show took any risks at all, but saying "sexism bad" in 2022 is not enough of a novel take imo

She Hulk has been incredibly frustrating. She Hulk could have had a very easy comic related reason why Bruce struggled with his control of the Hulk. Linking the trauma of his childhood creating an alter ego being the antithesis of what Bruce normally was. Adding further context to his soul searching pre end game.

People aren't so good at defining what woke is, but I think what people are intending to mean is excessive focus on identity or identity politics. And what you're describing is exactly the kinds of issues woke can cause for a show. Good video though.
