I retired from the salon in 2019 after 32 years behind the chair. That being said, I have to tell you, Mr. Hair Buddha, you sir , are brilliant with the analogies you've come up with to help things make sense to the "DIY hairdresser". My favorite is : " If you take a black piece of paper and write on it with a bright colored marker. Can you see that color? NO YOU CANNOT ! Now do the same with a white piece of paper...BOOM! YOU SEE??? for..explaining how direct dye (bright colors) cannot make dark or black hair bright. Simply brilliant!! I Love it ! I am addicted to this channel!

Here's where it goes wrong in my opinion: Laziness. Not bothering to look up information. Just buy something. Then: taking shortcuts as much as possible. Cutting, but especially dyeing. No proper measurements. Mixing less thoroughly than they should. No sections. They want to have the same results as a professional would, but without putting in the time and effort. A good dye job costs a lot of time, especially when bleaching. Sections, the finer the better. And the less volumes, the better, because you can do a second or third or even fourth bleach without ruining the hair. But with 10 or 20 volumes it takes longer to lift and that's the problem, they want it NOW.

Agreed but there’s a social factor. Good well researched unbiased doc videos on effect of social media on younger gens (DW’s video and the ‘IG effect: 2022’ docuvideo). Addiction to attn plus likes/approval from insecurity (common when young) and pressure to follow trends like ‘hair fails’. It’s why I’m so glad HB and Brad Mondo post good results too and point out things done right. The lack of gloves and or proper ventilation too often is scary.
@chrisannahampton
@chrisannahampton 2 жыл бұрын
Yep that’s exactly what happens I use 30 on my hair only because I put lots of colors in it and I’ve found 30 is easier to pull those colors but if I’m doing my daughter or my friends I use 20 because I’m not about to fry their hair off…. I can’t imagine putting on 40 the heat coming off of that and then wrapping it up in foil making then even hotter is crazy thought

Yes, but that's not blonde, it's just an orangey under lightened mess. If you just look at her in that front on camera, it's not bad, it's like yellow, but then the splotches of uneven colour looks kinda orange. The problem I see is people are way too impatient. I can't count how many people I've seen who said "I'm not touching the roots", but turn around and do the roots too. Taking small sections is tedious, especially on yourself, and having that crap on your head for any length of time is very uncomfortable, but that's how you have to do it.

Man, I do my own hair and "learned" how to bleach on my own head, and I've got to say, it you're gonna do that: a.) start small/with the most gentle products possible. I started with 20 vol bleach and have never needed anything stronger than that for my medium/dark brown hair, b.) thin sections, c.) consume as much content/info as possible from people that ARE pros on the topic, and d.) be willing to work with a result that might not be your ideal. I started bleaching my front section while it still had old black dye on the lower half, so I rocked ombre in my front until it grew out. I chose colors on the ends that could cover the gingery portions and went lighter in the areas I had platinum. I do definitely get the impulse behind wanting something really really badly and just going for it (adhd, lol) though, but the results are so much more satisfying with a bit more patience!! Nothing more satisying than freshly bleached roots and a nice, even color.

Oh my goodness! New here but I have a thought...maybe you should start a channel where people can ask advice BEFORE the disasters. Idk about other places but here if you ask a hair dresser for advice on anything like colors or hair styles that would work for a person, you get shut down and fast. Even if you give them the reins they just give you a blunt cut. No imagination in this neck of the woods. I just use box dye and let mine grow because I don't know what to do with it. I've been told by family members that I'm too old for my hair style. A lot of us are in the same boat. My daughter pulled the whole cut bangs too short then pull hair forward and cut it into new bangs to hide it thing...I lost it. Literally cried. Picking up tips on what not to do from these videos though and that's awesome! Thank you for the entertainment!!!

Forget bleaching. How in the heck do you get naturally blond hair to hold onto a darker shade? I have tried numerous times myself & professionally. My hair will look great at first but it always fades very quickly back to blond even with expensive shampoo for color treated hair. I've given up bc now I have alot of silver hair growing in. It's funny how brunettes want blond & blonds want darker.

I am awfull for not trusting hair dressers, grew my black hair out to my virgin hair, eventually when to a hair dressers got the black cut out she bleached my hair by voils, it was a bit yellow when I left the shop, 2nd appointment I had more foils I dident get the coulour I wanted and I asked for a trim just a trim, she cut all my hair in layers about 4inches up the hair shaft I came out my hair was ruined I never went back, now I have a coulour I don’t like and all my hair chopped off that’s why I can’t trust hairdressers, I went to a different salon showed the hairdresser what coulour I wanted same picture even she could not get it right, she knew because she said when it was dry please let me do another toner I just said no it’s fine and left the shop, I’m never going to another hairdresser that’s why I’m hear ❤

I'm not a hair dresser or colorist or anything of the likes. But for about like 15 years I did all sorts of things to my own hair. Like bleaching any dyeing it all sorts of colors. Anyways to me it was about the fun and learning to do it myself and it was always "just" hair to me. Anyways good old days. What I learned about my own hair throughout the years though (it's thick, a lot of it, and dark ash blonde naturally) that usually to get it to a very ligh pale yellow base for platinum etc. I just needed to do a proper bleach bath with like 20% developer. Which wasn't as harmful to my scalp and hair and also distributed waaaaaay easier because of the shampoo. But that clearly depends on the hair type etc. It's kinda just what sometimes makes me wanna cringe when I see people that already have not too dark hair to begin with go in with a full on bleach at like 40% and then just do it again etc. Poor scalps. Thanks for your videos though I really like watching them. :)

Can u please PLEASE make a video on creme lightener? How u use it, when u should use that instead of bleach powder, does it do the same things bleach powder does? Should u avoid your roots when using creme also? I would love u if u did a video on this. I've commented on Brad Mondos videos numerous times ain't for this but I've been ignored

I used 20 volume over a period of 3 days to lift BLUE-BLACK dye out of my hair (that had been there for 5 years) to go red. 20 VOLUME. I took my time. I used quality hair masks, salon shampoo and conditioner, and Olaplex. It turned out just fine. Oh, my gosh, these girls ... I feel so bad for them, but at the same time, all the information you need regarding lifting your hair is at your fingers.

Hands down DO NOT DO ANY BLEACHING/LIGHTENING PROCESS BEFORE YOU INTENSELY RESEARCH IT. I'll scream it from rooftops. My. Mom has always bleached her hair around me growing up so did my grandma and then my younger sister as they all have the lighter skin tones that suit blonde me on the other hand my hair stayed my natural dark brown and I have a slightly different hair texture bing mexican so could never go blonde and always just added box hair color on top to give it a hint of blue, purple or reds. Finally at 30 I felt %100 comfortable in my own skin and loved myself FINALLY and thought sod brown hair I want mermaid hair and so I thoroughly looked and found my first 2 colours which where manic panic amythest purple and atomic turquoise then 3/4 years later after alot of Brad mondo and of course Hair Buddha and picking my mom's hairdresser brain as she started training at Chi hair and beauty academy in Texas USA so now we are 5 years later I'm now rocking violet and lagoon blue la riche semi permanent hair dye. Achieved it on my own went from my dark brown ohh which 6 year prior I had bleached the ends for a blood red ombre (very faded) I did one round bleach using blonde me developer and powder, no foils my hair is over half way down my back. I got a mid yellow colour and did a test strand of a bleach wash and it made it pale yellow and very very pale yellow almost white color the went in and did like a hair melt I guess from purple to the turquoise and it was stunning I was very happy with myself. But it take sooo much time and patience but doing all the steps properly the first time does make a huge difference on how the outcome is. Just recently almost a year to the day I finally went in and did my regrowth and managed to pull off my roots and %100 missed any pre colored hair and changed to a vibrant violet nad lagoon blue lol. I really wanna let it fade and see if I can go all over turquoise next. Also I do know I may never get blue out of my hair but at 33 I can %100 garuntee I'll be rocking the same hair in 20 years time lmao and I'll stay withih the blue and purple colour any how my favourite colour apart from navy blue, blue or dark blue and lilac or pastel. Long one but please just take your time I wanted this to be done instantly but I was told to wait and make sure I have a good idea of what I'm actually doing lol worth the wait

Ya not supposed to use bleach with metals. Don't use metal bowls or spoons or whatever. The rule is the more concentrated the developer (PEROXIDE), the more damaged your hair is going to be. The powder just makes it stick to your hair. And that foil is wrong.
