Hi Mike and Melissa. My name is Bill I subscribe to your KZbin channels. I am 73 and live in cranberry township. I really like your content. We have a golden retriever named Riley who has many of the same characteristics as Archie. I was very saddened when I saw the video where you lost Stanley. I know it is heartbreaking. I too love guns and I'm a benefactor life member of the NRA. I am also very patriotic. I especially like the videos with Hunter in them. His smile is infectious. Keep on doing what you're doing and show more of Hunter. Regards. Bill

Good evening all! I’m chilling on the ‘patio’, which is really just a bit of concrete pad east of the smaller cabin. So we have a great expansive view of the valley to the east when the sun starts going behind the hill to the west. Shadows are lengthening, and the sky has come out from the overcast we had most of the day and we have blue sky and cotton ball clouds. It’s really awesome. Again today I’ve used Mike’s back drag to ready loose gravel and soil to make the scoop easier. Thanks for teaching me something neither of us knew I needed! I’ve also run a chainsaw, hung a gate, back filled a retaining wall, put gravel in front of the west entrances to the shop, re-established a berm intended to divert runoff from running through the open part of the shed (where I put the gravel), and mowed the rest of the yard. The retaining wall backfill was work. I was ready to call it a day. I have been impressed with the quality of your videos. Your fades into and out of music when you transition to time lapse are pretty slick. I’ve been impressed by how the cadence and mood match the content too. For what it’s worth, I’d much rather have your music on the time lapse instead of silence or Alvin Chipmunk-style compressed audio. So I vote keep on doing what you do. 😀

First I wanted to comment about how "OCD" you are about stacking your lumber. That's not a bad thing, rather it shows how you pay attention to detail. As far as your channel, the content and presentation, I have been watching ever since near the beginning and have seen it evolve and grow. I remember commenting and giving some "advice" to Melissa when she first started appearing. She seemed very shy and nervous at first. Fast-forward to today and you can tell that she's perfectly comfortable being in front of the camera. Just keep doing what you do. This is by far one of my favorite channels to watch, and I have recommended it to friends.

OCD or great pride in workmanship, it doesn't matter. Great stacking job Mike. I know we didn't see you stacking the wood in real time, but it didn't look like it took much extra time to do a good job. Leaving the gaps between rows and between boards will help the boards to dry evenly and faster. Thanks again for your videos.

WOW, I just discovered something pretty amazing about this 'puter' thing, it actually has a 'volume' switch, I can turn it up or down if I don't want to hear something, and I can fast forward a little if I don't want to watch something, as for me, I like the entire video, so I would never turn the volume up or down, or fast forward, maybe some would, keep up the good work, from AZ !!!

Mike and Melissa, I was not fortunate enough to start watching your channel from the start, however I’m slowly getting caught up and have thoroughly enjoyed every video. As I watched you unpack and assemble the firewood bundled, you mentioned placing a knife of some sort in a small pocket built into the frame. I thought it would be easier to attach a magnet on the outside of the stack frame to hold a knife. Mike, I’m always impressed with how you operate your machinery. Deliberate and precise. Calming.

I must say, the way you controlled those machines, and specifically towards the end as well, was very impressive. In a lot of videos I’ve seen people seem to struggle which is fine, I don’t imagine I’d be any great either. I would assume it’s more so the pressure of being watched, but you sir made it look so easy. The even distribution of the soil as she was compacting was amazing to watch. 👏🏼👏🏼😁

You might want to build a short spreader bar that spans the length of your compactor. Short chains on each end that go down to the hand holds on the machine with an attachment point on the top for picking up with your tractor. No damage to the machine and easier on the back! Your music selections are great!

Mike, i think you and your wife are awesome and I lovced the country lifestyle you live. So peaceful and tranquil. I live in Minnesota so the wood prices vary here as follows: Home Depot - $13 - $25 per board and could go higher based on whether its pressured treated, sanded, etc Lowes - $25-50 per board depending on pressure treated, sanded, etc Menards-(Local large Home Improvement store in the Midwest based in Wisconsin) $11-$25 depending on finish and type of wood i.e. Pine, Maple, Red Oak

Canvas tarps are nice... used them for years to temporarily cover inventory outdoors on rainy days. One thing we found though was that they needed to be sloped so water could not lay on the tarp otherwise the rain would soak through. Having an air space between the stored item and the tarp in addition to the slope was ideal... We had some thin wall tubing for that purpose.

Make a lift bar for your plate tamper by getting a length of angle iron a little longer than the base plate and put chains with hooks on each end that will go down to the lift handles on the tamper then on the top side of the angle iron put a lift shackle at the balance point. You should be able to clear the muffler and be able lift the tamper.

It's real simple. The plate compactor is good on even surfaces. Some additional soil needed to be put on the side so the compactor wouldn't slide down the "hill" toward the concrete cistern. Melissa showed she has the real stuff when she shut it off each time before it hit it. She also was able to climb it back out of the gulley too. Love it. Gotta love a woman with grit. Greetings from No VT - Mike, I think the point that some people are making is that sometimes the volume of the music makes it somewhat difficult to hear a commentary that is going on. My suggestion is: When there is a commentary going on and you are editing maybe back the music volume down just a touch; then when commentary is complete bring the music back up. No complaints on music just when they overshadow the commentary at times.

Just look at the big box near me. It’s looking like 1x10: 8 foot long kiln white board is: $18.50 per board. If you eventually tie the cistern to the garage down spouts, then it’ll take roughly 2” rain storm to fill it up roughly 90% full.

That’s right, Mike. Keep doing what you’re doing! 😁😁😁 I bought a White Duck log carrier on your recommendation a couple or three months back. Great product! Great workmanship. We heat with wood near full time. 👍👍👍

My thoughts in the music, I have no opinion on the amount or genre of it. But I have always been fascinated by the fact, given how much you already do, that you find enough music to add to the content. Keep up the great content, fantastic videography, and tremendous editing.

LMAO Before plate tampers they had, an still do, called a jumping jack. By the end of the summer I could walk that thing out of a ditch. Melissa "let the machine do the work". There is an art to everything even a shovel. A+++ for effort as usual. Mike, what's the plan on keeping the tank full? Think about a couple of your down spouts discharging into the tank and use 5 gal water bottle dispenser for drinking and ice. Much less of a headache keeping the water potable and not worth the risk if ya ask me. You have a work ethic second to none.

Good afternoon everyone. 57º in Kansas City now. Taking a break from mowing the yard. Been raining off and on, trying to stay ahead of the growing grass. Stay safe, be humble & kind and have a day.

The plate compactor, being run under the constraints to avoid the cistern, yet pack the ditch, could be tricky. The uneven terrain made the job harder. But I thought the task was done sufficiently, if not technically perfectly. Job done.

You were talking about all the different opinions that show up in the comment section and I had to laugh, I was thinking to myself...you make videos to show what you do and how you do it when you can...I say you do what you like and how you like it, if it’s something that doesn’t appeal to me I can always fast forward or skip it all together, which hasn’t happened yet.. I can say that about a lot of the channels out there. Thank you for what you do, it has helped me pass the time while healing from medical issues.

Mike, Air dry a bit of lumber myself. All research leans toward keeping the air flowing. Believe the canvas tarp may hinder this. I use metal roofing weighted down with blocks. I imagine you could build a structure with roofing and weights that you could remove with forks when needing to add additional lumber.

Mike - Thanks for sharing the comments on the music you put in your videos (made me smile, as I thought about the fact that you absolutely cannot please everyone. Great quote from Ricky Nelson below which fits perfectly). I have to commend Melissa for keeping it together as she talked about her experience with the "thumper." I think she was using all of her self control to keep from telling us how she truly felt about the experience. What a trooper. Blessings to you both, and to your family. Hi to Hunter, Hannah, and Eva.
