I don't understand why some people come to these kinds of videos to criticize the "lack of complexity of the game", I understand that there are more complex games like chess but that should not be an excuse to belittle the game of checkers. Personally, I like both games 😶‍🌫️

@@ns7379This video shows us the international game of checkers ("Brazilian" version in 8x8 instead of the standard 10×10). But even for the simpler American version concerned by this 2007 study, it has just been proven that two "perfect" players always end a game in a draw. But is doesn't provide a sure-fire winning strategy for a human player. So it doesn't change the point of organizing tournaments (almost all with international rules).

It's fun when you're 5 years old, but after that it gets more and more exciting, as you can master increasingly complex tactics and strategies. Unfortunately, checkers has the reputation of being a children's game, which means that many adults don't bother to discover the real rules (the international checkers game) and don't study the immense richness of this game. It has only been shown that two players playing perfectly end up on a draw. This in no way provides a sure-fire winning strategy. And this only applies to the simplest version of checkers (the American version). What we see here are the standard international rules (played on 8x8 or 10x10 checkerboard) which have not been resolved. The great complexity of possible strategies (unfortunately unknown to the general public) justifies high-level tournaments.

@alainvillesuzanne8613
@alainvillesuzanne8613 3 күн бұрын
@@sabriathI don't know what universe you're talking from but, once again, what has been demonstrated, after years of calculations, is precisely that in American checkers, no player has an advantage. A game in which both players play only the best moves ends in a draw. The game is balanced, which is a good thing. A perfect game is, of course, beyond the reach of human players. Computers are crushing the best chess players. Does this mean we've stopped organizing chess tournaments? And, again, this video is about the rules of international checkers, which are far more strategically rich than the American version. I always wonder why some people insist that checkers is useless, when the facts prove otherwise. Of course, one can have a preference for chess, Go or any other abstract game. But in this case, it's a question of taste, not of the intrinsic quality of the game.
