Recently, it was revealed in creator commentary that TFS was collectively afraid how Goku and Frieza's dynamic would work. Only to realise ,as they started writting, that the former's innocent stupidity perfectly bounces off of the latter's sophisticated sadism. And I have to agree, just seeing Frieza slowly lose braincells with every sentence out of Goku's mouth is hillarious.

Its a funny thing they had the same fear with Vegeta vd Nappa, losing Nappa as the funny one only for Goku vs Vegeta dynamic to fill it, they then have the fear after loosing Vegeta vs Frieza only to hit comedy gold again.

Fun Fact: Goku uses Kaio Ken x20 throughout the fight with Frieza, which is tearing his body up. In the anime itself, they make a point of mentioning he's only doing it for brief moments to block hits or make attacks

In the manga he uses Kaio Ken throughout the fight, and it's the only way he has any way of keeping up with Freezer. Thing is that in the manga there's no visual difference between normal fight aura and Kaio Ken aura. In the anime they didn't realize they were meant to make him red at regular intervals, so it looks like using it was some brilliant plan at one point.

After seeing Vegeta die and all the inhabitants get wiped out, Goku still maintains this child like attitude towards Freeza. One of my favorite moments ever is Goku's distraction with the Kamahamaha balls because that actually took quite a bit of strategy.

Well...Best fights when its NOT the original series. The Kai variant is actually watchable. The issue in the original is the Anime actually passed the manga writers at the frieza fight causing there to be entire episodes to just be background scenes with no characters. There is an entire episode of the two just looking at eachother for 30 minutes or so. TFS were talking about these scenes recently and the absolute misery of having to re-watch the original anime.

The bit of Vegeta not taking his clothes with him to hell killed me. Goku & Frieza’s dynamic is great Frieza is so used to fighting generic hero types he wasn’t prepared for Goku’s blunt & unorthodox style it makes it that much better watching Frieza be genuinely confused with Goku’s shenanigans

So fun fact. 8:57 that high score table is their power levels at this current time. It wasn't until after the Frieza saga that power levels became utterly useless and wasn't mentioned. By then no one needed scouters to tell the levels anyway. Goku is only at 3 million, but remember anytime he uses the kaioken (aka kaio-what?) it doubles his power at the cost of hurting his body. Goku has it on x10 through most of the fight. He attempts x20 to match Frieza, but it nearly kills him. I won't say more due to spoilers. Also as an aside "I pay my taxes one leg at a time" is probably in my top 5 favorite DBZA quotes.

XD the transition between Freeza and Vegeta having one sided conversations to Goku and Freeza having one sided conversations is STARK. Vegeta actually understands who he’s up against and treats the form changes with appropriate fear. He just assumes Freeza is going all out. Guess what? Against Goku? All he needs is 50%. And often not even that. So all of Vegeta’s super saiyan speeches were nothing but hot air. Goku…is so unbelievably dumb Freeza has no idea how to even talk to him. He tries simplifying, still doesn’t work, so he dumbs it down MORE, and Goku is STILL too stupid to follow. And Freeza is just aghast that this person is the biggest challenge to him he’s ever faced. Also just quietly remember Jeice, Burter, and Recoome talking about jo in the ship on the way, and Recoome said he didn’t have enough room in his pod. Now? Even a GOD is praising that thing and Recoome is the size of his foot. If not up to his ankle. Low god or no.

One thing Frieza constantly does is use one-liners to really emphasize when he has a one-up on his opponent and really attempt to mentally wound and intimidate them. For example, "Send you crying home to mommy" He constantly tries to do so when in the middle of his fight with Goku. It doesn't work because Goku is way too stupid for it to work

Goku's 'are you coming on to me' was the result of him drawing an erroneous conclusion from Freeza's analogy. Freeza said he'd drown Goku like a sack of puppies, and Goku thought Freeza was comparing him to puppies (cute and cuddly).
