Oliver (born William Oliver Swofford) had a second hit called “Jean” which was part of a movie called “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie”. You should check out his performance of “Jean” on The Ed Sullivan Show. “Jean” was written by Rod McKuen, an artist in his own right. You’d like his song “Soldiers Who Want To Be Heroes”. As for Oliver, he sadly passed away in 2000 of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was only 54. R.I.P.

I don't know what or when this video was made but it wasn't the 60s. I was 12 years old when Woodstock took place in 1969 so I kinda know what the sixties looked like. Still a super good song and the video is pretty close. Anyways keep up the excellent work. Oh also I loved Ambers reaction to the surfing bird song. I laugh every time I watch it.

I remember this song being all over the radio in 1969 (there wasn't any FM radio stations in New Mexico in 1969), so, this was unusual because most AM stations back then was old country. Anyway, several months after Sesame Street started on PBS, one of the regulars sang Good Morning Starshine (I was so elated) and being 7 years old, I didn't understand (then) why songs just go away because Good Morning Starshine just went away after that.

I heard this song for the first time on Armed Forces Radio in Nam. It was one of the few things to make you forget what was going on. Thank you for the good memories.

I've started watching some of your reactions before Amber was involved. You've come so far in your appreciation of all genres of music. And seeing both of you learning about music, instruments and the nuances of performance is so satisfying to see. Keep up the wonderful reaction. I enjoy and appreciate both of you!

How did I miss this reaction?! I sat here and just giggled at how much y'all were enjoying this song! I've been recommending this one for you for a long time. Upvote for Hair (with the video of The Cowsill's performing it!). That's my anthem (I have long hair, and a full head of it at 67)! Rain, the Park, and Everything is another favorite of mine. Hair is priceless because for one thing The Cowsill's were squeaky clean and didn't wear long hair except for the girls. They were a family band and were the inspiration for the TV series The Partridge Family. I think Susan Cowsill was about 8 years old at that time.

The next song by Oliver should either be Jean or Both sides now. He definitely was a great singer.

Oliver was a member of my church in Shreveport, La., and his wife was the organist. Nice guy and a fine singer.

Interesting! The vocal delivery is different from what I remember. Especially in the timing of the gliddy gloop gloopy section. I found another version on KZbin that matches my memory. Thus there must be two versions -- I wonder why!

This is re-recorded version most likely done in the 80's for a compilation of hits cd. There was a period where they did this to 60's and 70's songs. The artists were much older and the songs were shorter and lacking sounds from the originals. Apparently someone used the re-recorded version for their video.

This is one of those cheap rerecordings made years later for release on CD by the original artists who needed the money. There were hundreds of these rerecordings made in the 80s and 90s. Most are just horrible. This one at least was bordering on acceptable.

@@denpea-mm8zr The Original is so much better and great sounding. It's a shame they found this particular video for the song.

@@lreed1040 Couldn't agree more. I love "Good Morning Starshine" and was disappointed to hear one of these re-recordings. It's a shame that these 60s / 70s artists who didn't write the songs had to record these cheapo remakes when their careers dried up. I recall these CDs were on fly by night labels and the cover would advertise "Original Artists" in big capital letters. Unfortunately, these ripoff remakes are still all over iTunes.
