Your Mum is so cool! I too am a mother with purple hair at 53 ;) I live in Victoria and want to visit Tasmania - it looks beautiful. If you ever are in the Ballarat area - they have a great Wildlife Park with Tassie devils and wombats. Apparently we have echidnas roaming in the reserve at the bottom of my road, but not seen them yet.
