@@MrSilvertech how do you know my family has not passed down wealth? I know you’re trolling, but just a little FYI … there are lots of black families in America that have generational wealth, unfortunately we are a small community relatively speaking. The families that were fortunate enough to receive education, money, and most importantly the knowledge of how to be fiscally responsible … for the most part were direct descendants of slave owners. That’s why phenotypically most old black money families look “mixed” … these people were professionals in medicine, law, education, business, politics etc … these families helped build thriving communities. But, they did it too well for some ‘folks’ who did not like to see it. I know you’ve heard of Black Wall Street …. And it being burned to the ground, along with many others. Welcome Jim Crow. Even If you had money, BY LAW, you could not get a business loan, join the chamber of commerce, join a union, open certain bank accounts, buy a home in highly desirable vacation spots … we found our own Oaks Bluff in Mass. Hilton Head SC … but I’m sure you get my message. Those of us who were privileged enough to thrive recognize that everyone wasn’t so lucky. That was done by design and should be reconciled. 🙂

The government promised ex slaves Forty acres and a mule,which their descendants( African Americans) have yet to receive. Although we are not slaves and there are no slave owners today, the negative impact of slavery still affects African Americans today. Housing and employment discrimination, unfair judicial and penal system, police brutality . And in recent past history Jim Crow laws, the civil rights movement that continues to fight against injustices. There are so many Black people that are the descendants of slave owners and slaves that it isn't even a significant or remarkable fact. My own ancestry - I can go back and give you the exact names/dates of people - where my direct (many times great) grandmother was the mistress of a slave owner from a very prominent family that I will not name here - one of our country's most famous - and he left her a great deal of land and wealth in his will when he died. She was part Black and we suspect white/native - which allowed him to sort of get away with this. He left her his land, and it remained in our family in some form to this day. We can actually go visit it. They even buried her with a grave marker next to the owner when he died with the inscription of "My beloved xxx" the history of slavery in America is a horrible, dark and complicated thing. I think its helpful to understand these stories and that reparations are not a clean cut thing. I think the best way to handle reparations is really through broader education, and just acceptance. There's no clear cut way to do it.

So as the Vikings and Romans both invaded the British isles. Do I claim reparations from them, or do I claim them from Egypt for battling the Roman Empire, or do I claim reparations from Ethiopia and Somalia for the years of conflict before that. As a lot of African-American are descendants of the latter, I think I had also better put my hand forward 🙂🙂

One of the problems I have with reparations is it would be funded by tax payers. I'm only the 2nd generation born in the states. My ancestors didn't own slaves. People today shouldn't have to pay for others wrongs. I don't know what the answer is but I don't think reparations are it.

@@loveablelaughter2089 Look at the picture again who was the slave and who was the owner. Many Blacks were slave owners. No one should be allowed inheritance or estates then. Let's end this for everyone, if the descendants of slaves in America can't collect what's owed to their ancestors no one should. We need to put forth a bill abolishing estates and inheritances for all in America. It's the only way to honor every man being born equal. No trust funds, all the money goes back to the system upon death. Do you think if America stole Dr. Phil's wealth, and he died before his day in court, his offspring or estate wouldn't have a right to continue fighting for the return of what was his? People are evil...smh

You can’t get over something that is institutional and built into the very threads of American History. Do you say to the Jews “Get over the Holocaust” I will not let past hatred and ignorance define my future, but in order to do so the past must be acknowledged no matter how ugly it is. There isn’t a dollar amount high enough to Pay African Americans enough for what they have endured in this country. We shouldn’t have to “get over it” for other people to feel comfortable.
@brandonlahman7945 Жыл бұрын
@AllDatJas504 Yes... Get over it because it affects no one and helps nothing. It just fuels the fire of hate and ignorance. The sick politicians in office have purposefully designed the way things are now so they can feed their lust for power. Listen. My entire family tree on my mother's side was wiped out. We literally cant get records of their deaths because they were all murdered in Dachau, Auschwitz-Birkenau, and Buchenwald. Our family on that side had thousands of acres of farm land just taken by those bastards. I'm also mostly Irish and Lakota Indian. Both of those people suffered. The Irish were treated worse than black people in that era. And we all know what has become of our native ancestors. But I would never scrape the bottom and demand other people's hard earned money. I wasn't involved in any of that, and the common sense thing to do is to give thanks to the world we live in instead of asking or demanding money. Everything can be gone in an instant. Our lives are such a blessing, and there will never be enough time to bicker and cry about the past. I just wasn't raised that way. I have never cared about skin color. It's a trap. It's to keep us all hating eachother and dividing the country. Every nationally has suffered great wrong doings. But that's not us. They all suffered with the belief that we would rise above the hate and ignorance. There's alot of ignorant fkrs out there, but the pride you can feel by moving forward won't keep you trapped in an endless loop of hate. Anyways... Let's pray for a better future where none of this matters. It's the only way we will ever advance.

How will money solve the fact that their ancestors were slaves? The money wont erase the fact that they were slaves, and the people who are alive now are not slaves. What about all the other nationalities that in the past were treated unfairly, discriminated against because they were immigrants should they get a pay check too ? What about the chinese, mexicans, middle eastern people who get treated unfairly in america right now, they are discriminated against for just being a different nationality too, from jobs, social and wealth do they get a paycheck too because the government treated them unfairly? The black slaves who were slaves were from 150 years ago they are dead now, and the offspring are acting like they were the slaves when in actual fact they are born privileged, they got education and jobs and never lived a life of slavery. Getting money for someone else who suffered slavery is wrong when you never lived a life of slavery and they have.
