I loved Jesse. When he answered "yes" after Zack asked "Are you always like this?" And how he graciously gave up his ticket to give to Zack. Later on in the film he knew that Laney's was bullshitting when she said she had stuff to do after she was invited to Preston's party. A completely platonic friendship. A male best friend who knew Laney better than anyone else in the world. He knew that Laney was afraid to let anything good happen to her and he tried his best to change that for her. He looked out for her best interest the way a good friend should. Wonderful guy.

I made a comment in a previous post about how Jesse really looked out for Laney's best interest. He knew her better than anyone and tried to break her out of her shell. I loved how he knew she was bullshitting when she said that she had stuff to do to get out of going to Preston's party. "Laney, sitting around while your father watches Jeopardy in his underwear hardly qualifies as stuff to do". I thought he was a great guy.

Aisling Mockler made the comment you are refering to. But you really missed the point of the movie if you think its all about looks. She changes inwardly as well. At the start she was dark and anti-social, because she didn't want to chance letting anyone in; because the bad ones might hurt her. There's a reason she nearly beat out Taylor. Once she opened up, she was a lot more likable than superficial Tayor who was all about looks. Taylor was a pretty bully; no heart.
