It’s frustrating how they stayed together for so long out of stubbornness. Olivia really hit the nail on the head that they should have ended it sooner. She cannot be around the ones that abused her-his family. And he feels hurt that he had to choose his wife over his family and missed so much with them for a marriage that didn’t work out. But he’s blaming her rather than recognizing that that’s just life. Sometimes you hold on to the wrong thing for too long and miss something you later realize meant more to you.

I can’t imagine getting away from one toxic family. Then, marrying into another i’m so glad that she is living her best life without him. Only because he was never going to grow with her. Sometimes, you are only with people for a season. I hope that she finds her forever family someday.

I feel naive for being shocked that Ethan would disown a gay child. Wow. That is NOT love. How can he not realize that’s no better than his parents? A parent’s love is meant to be unconditional. Moms and dads are SUPPOSED to be forever. Congrats to Olivia for getting out of that family.

I binged through your Plathville videos because your commentary on this show is really fun to watch. This family seems so toxic and I do feel bad that they grew up in such a sheltered environment. I'm so glad that Olivia is doing well. Watching her journey through your videos has been such a trip. Her marriage to Ethan seemed really terrible and there were quite a few red flags even early on. I'm glad that she is able to get away from this family and hopefully find better and healthier relationships with other people.

I hope all of these people find peace in their lives. It seems as though with the exception of Olivia, Lydia P. and possibly Moriah, the rest of them are so busy playing the blame game, I do not see how this will end well for anyone.

I LOVE her answer to the last name question… right on! I’ve kept my exes name for 20 years… And it’s almost impossible to be married to someone with differing values beliefs and even politics in some cases… imo

I 💯 agree with Olivia. My last name now is the only name I have use professionally, it also gives me a level of legitimacy in my career as it is a common name in the language associated with my work. I also have a blended and fractured family where there are three different last names in play and it made me really want to have the same name as my kids, but vis-à-vis I can definitely understand for Olivia that it makes zero sense to change her name back.

You've mentioned it before, but Ethan HAS to be neurodivergent. The way he is so unmoving, hates change, and refuses to feel any type of emotion that will cause him discomfort screams it from the rooftops. The man NEEDS professional help to learn some coping skills

I'm not sure if i buy Kim living on the houseboat. I could see her not wanting to be seen on TV living with a man while still married, so she moved into the boat for filming (it could even possibly be due to her pending divorce) I don't know how to explain it, I just don't get the vibe they actually are living on the boat when I watched it.

She said she homeschooled them to protect them and then largely disappeared for months before she finally moved out for good. Did they suddenly not need a Mom in a regular basis? My parents have been divorced 20 years, she kept his last name because my brother and I have it and she didn’t want a different last name to her kids, especially since dad was not a big part of our lives afterwards, I wanted to change my name to her maiden name when I turned 18mbut it was just too much bother, I know in my heart I’m more halpin than Spinks, I don’t need it written on my license to know I’m a halpin haha. My kid is even a Spinks now. When I do get married I want to take his last name, I have never felt connected to my last name and when I make a new family, I want to seal it with us having the same name, idk if it’s his name he was born with or if we make up a new name all of our own, I just don’t want my father name anymore,and I’ll have my kid’s name changes too when that happens.

Olivia seems so fake from day one I think she only married Ethan because he was on the show. She even said herself this past episode that she knew they had so many differences when they got married. The parents were the ones that convinced them to sign contracts to be on the show. They have been on the show for the same amount of time. I think they will both be a lot happier without each other. Olivia can find someone who loves and accepts her for exactly who she is, something she’s never experienced from her family or the Plaths. & Ethan can go back home to his family, work on his cars, and find a conservative christian girl who will serve and obey him.
