The thing about Goku going along Snake Way is that he did start off by flying. But it's such a ridiculously long path that he eventually uses up all his energy and can't fly anymore. So he starts jumping across all the curves until he almost doesn't make one of the jumps. So he starts running instead to stay on the path. He eventually comes across that cleaning truck that tells him he's only like a quarter of the way across. Goku hitches a ride on the truck so he can sleep while still making progress but fell off and down into Hell. When he leaves Hell and gets back up to Snake Way, he had to restart the entire thing from the very beginning... Abridged really didn't do it justice how insanely long Snake Way really is.

Saiyans have a bunch of rules. They regrow their tail if they lose it when they are still children. If they have a tail they grow to giant monkeys (Oozaru) at the full moon, becoming approximately 10x more powerful. They also become significantly (and permanently) more powerful any time they recover from near death (Zenkai boost).

Actually Saiyans are always suppose to regrow their tails. Goku had his permanently removed by Kami and Vegeta and Gohan never regrew theirs' because Toriyama just forgot Saiyans had tails. It's kinda like the reason Launch wasn't in DBZ despite her having a thing for Tien. Toriyama forgot she existed.

The DB Wiki says that "the tail will often suddenly grow back if the Saiyan is in danger. A Saiyan's tail has an 8% chance of growing back, though it will not grow back if they have surpassed the power of their Great Ape form in their normal state." Probably written after the fact that Akira Toriyama forgot about tails.

4:44 "He didn't keep his eye on the birdie" is a reference to Raditz's signature attack. In the Japanese dub it was called Double Sunday. In the Eng dub it was called "Keep Your Eye On The Birdie." They make this into a joke in DBZ abridged episode one when Raditz meets Piccolo. The first guy who was voicing Raditz in the abridged version was about to say Double Sunday, but then got interrupted by the second guy who voiced Raditz for the rest of the time he appeared on DBZ abridged, who then said "Keep Your Eye On The Birdie." A side note; in the making of DBZ abridged, from what I've heard, the second guy loved the "Keep Your Eye On The Birdie" line from the English dub so much, he said that if he didn't get to say that line in the abridged series, he wouldn't participate. At least that's what I think I heard. Edit: 10:49 That fruit joke, in the original series, it was supposed to give the person who ate it a temporary power up. The reason they introduced this in the original DBZ is because the exit to HFIL leads to one of the drawers in King Yama's mahogany desk, so Goku had to start his run all over again, and the writers needed a way for Goku to make up the lost time quickly, because that entire HFIL episode was filler.

him running and not always flying is cause at this point in the series he didnt have enough ki to fly 24/7. also gohans tail thing is an anime only where because they just pull it off it naturally regrows and does so i think like 4 times including movie instances. I believe Goku had the help of Kami to remove his tail permanently but im not sure.

In Dragon Ball, the original series where goku was a child, it was a huge plot armor point for goku to suddenly regrow his tail and monkey out and destroy everything. Later on into goku's teen years it stopped regrowing as the series became more about overcoming enemies with actual skill and not "just because".

Piccolo's line at 15:12 is a reference to one of the bad, early dubs of the movies, where a character said a similar line ("That'sright, everyoneofmyracecanbecomeagiantgorilla!") with the same rushed delivery and no pauses between words. A lot of the time, if a character says something weird or out-of-place, it's a reference to one of the dubs - Dragon Ball Z had a lot of them, and some of them were very bad.

The voice of Alucard in Hellsing Ultimate Abridged is Takahata101, who in this early arc of TFS voiced Nappa... The reference about 'Keeping his eye on the Birdy' is a reference to Raditz's signature attack called 'Keep your eyes on the Birdy' As for where the scouter came from.....in the Actual Anime Bulma recovered Raditz's Scouter and was messing around with it at Kame House to figure out how it worked and if they could use it. Bulma figured out how to translate the writing on the Display into something they could read and put it on to test it out on Krillin, Roshi and the Turtle......if I remember correctly, Roshi had a Power level of 170, Krillen was like 212 and the turtle was 0.0005 You talk about how Goku can fly instead of running snake way.....this is something that many people don't understand about Dragonball and Dragonball Z early on. The ability to Fly uses up lots of Ki and leaves the person fatigued after long periods because the person is literally expelling Ki from their legs or feet to provide the thrust to fly, this is why Goku preferred to use Nimbus to fly as transportation in order to save his Ki for fighting. Now as Dragonball Z progressed flight became more prevalent as their power levels and Ki Reserves grew...... for example if you have a Ki Reserve of say 600 and flying from point A to point B will take up 200 of that then when you actually fight you will be at a disadvantage with only 400 Ki, but later on when their Ki reserves are like 10,000, 100,000 or a 1,000,000 then 200 Ki is kind of minimal..... The reason their tails grow back is because Gohan is young. Yes Gohan's tail Grows back, multiple times, and the reason they gave is because his tail was either cut off or removed by pulling it off. It is explained later that until a Saiyan reaches adulthood their tails can keep growing back but once they are adults it stops which is why Vegeta's tail never regrows after it was cut off, Goku's tail was removed and they cauterized the end of is tail so it couldn't grow back. This was later done to Gohan and Trunks had his tail removed and cauterized at Birth, because it keeps them from becoming giant Oozaru mindlessly blowing up entire 100 mile grid squares every 3 days a month......

As far as the Saiyan tail thing goes, Gohan had his tail from birth and it stayed there until piccolo pulls it off in episode four, it regrows a couple of times in the series (counting movies) before being completely gone for the remainder of the series. Goku had his tail cut off and yanked off in dragon ball, where it kept growing back until Goku agreed to give up his tail so that Kami could restore the moon (without being aware of the correlation)

But the older he grew the more time it took, until it didn't when he was a full grown adult. They had to cut off Gokus tail becouse, like Gohan, he couldn't control his Monkey from. (It was also implied that Son Goku might have killed his Grandfather in his Monkey rage. He was always told to stay inside at the end of the month and don't look outside. But one day he came home late and the moon was already out. Next day he wakes up, doesn't remember a thing, the house is smashed and he never saw his Grandpa again.)

So the reason they made Popo unexplainably terrifying is because there is a filler fight he puts NO effort into that he has NO right doing even moderately well…and when you realize how strong he was in that fight, you realize he could’ve been apart of EVERY major fight in the 1st 2 arcs of the story and just derailed everything. (That and he already looks terrifying as is) The actual show years later actually references the huge Popo close ups TFS does. Which is spectacular. (Even if TFS and the company that made DBZ never got along, they still took inspiration from each other) Also everyone is needlessly cruel because quite frankly that’s exactly how cruel and intimidating they were, or should have been in the canon of the story. The reason gokus tail grows back in gt is supposedly it wasnt fully grown yet when it was cut off as a kid if im remembering right. So he gets help yanking it out further... Also sucks to be vegeta then with the age he was at when his was cut off lol.

Think Goku at one point did start to fly across snake way, but he eventually got tired and almost fell again. To prevent from falling again he just stuck with running since it’s the safer option. Also, Goku can run as fast as he could fly so it doesn’t matter if he does either or.

So Dragon Ball Z is actually a successor series to the original Dragon Ball, occurring after a five year time-skip. That being said, I'll provide some context on who Chi-Chi is and Goku's relationship with her. So, Goku didn't marry Chi-Chi by choice. They met as children, and she immediately developed an obsession with him, and then tricked him into promising to marry her. Years latter, after everyone had forgotten about her, she showed up during a martial arts tournament and convinced him to "Honor his promise" even though he still didn't even know what marriage was (Goku was raised alone in the woods by an elderly martial artist who died when Goku was like, nine, and has spent the remainder of his life either in death matches or preparing for the next death match). Despite the fact that he's very obviously not the type to settle down, she continues to try to force him into fulfilling her idealized role of what a husband should be. So yeah, Chi Chi in the original series is nuts and not in an amusing psychopath way, but rather in a manipulative, delusional, narcissist way.
